Question about RCA Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

Hello i have a yamaha cx-830 pre amp. the volume potentiometer was cracking a year ago and an authorized service tech told me to blow the dust out and lube it with detoxit. Witch corrected the problem. The unit hardly ever is used but now there seems to be no sound . The unit powere up and every switching feature appears to function correctly. I have turned the output levle all the way down on my cd player and bypassed the pre amp directly to the mx-830 via rca momentarily and the other components all function correctly. If the volume is turned up to absolute maximum there can be heard a slight amount of sound making its way through the pre out rcas to the power amp. Does any one know if the small volume potentiometer boards can fail or any where else it sounds like i should be looking? Thank you

This is a component failure. A lot of pre amps use OPERATION AMP chips. Finding the issue involves a lot of time and troubleshooting with special equipment.

HI SIR .THAT IS NOT BIG PROBLEM.ALL YOU HAVE TO DO MAKE SURE THAT YOUR PRE HAVE THE FLL.1 PROPERLLY EARTHED(THE GROUND FROM YOUR AMP ALSO GOES TO THE PRE )2 ASK YOUR ELECTRONIC MECHENIC TO CHECK IF THER'S NO BROKEN GROUND ON THE BOARD INSIDE.

SOURCE: power amp outputs no sound

No one could determine the extent of the problem without placing hands and eyes on the unit.

Have you checked the Yellow Pages or online equivalent?

SOURCE: in need of a pre-amp

Hi, You will need to use another RCA monster cable to test where the buzz sound , if the buzz sound still comes on, that means the out put of the pre-amp needs to be replaced...

Take care..

Yamaha PSR 740 Volume knob crackles when turned and the sound cuts out when played at higher volume

There is dust in the sliding mechanism, which can be cleaned with a good electronic cleaner, which does not evaporate when drying. If that does not work, replace the volume potentiometer, the `part behind the knob.

I have a sansui G9700 receiver/amp. The volume control works intermitantly. Must play with it to get volume. I believe I need to replace the potentiometer F3085. where can I get one? Erick G

The potentiometer doesn't need to be replace, it has collected dust inside causing the intermittent operation. Buy a contact cleaner/conditioner to spray inside it and move the potentiometer clockwise and counter clockwise a few times until the dust inside it is gone.
Check this link to find a contact/conditioner cleaner or you can try spraying rubbing alcohol but this could because alcohol doesn't not lubricants properties.
Let me know if you require further assistance.

My right earphone has stopped working but works when the volume control is held in a certain way any clues to what is wrong?

There is a break in the potentiometer ( volume controller) of the headset. Your carbon track or the contact sweeper is losing touch with the carbon track.
Replacement of the controller potentiometer is needed.

Looking for a replacement volume control module for psr e303

You can obtain these from Yamaha Music Spares Dept in your country.

Go to the following Yamaha site link and choose your country

http://www.yamaha.com/

Select Musical Instruments - Support and the contact details will be displayed.

I just used them to by some parts for a Clavinova and they were in stock, accepted credit cards and delivered within 24 hours.

What kind of amplifier and other accessories are recommended for bose 901 speakers

I would recommend a high power 2-channel amplifier, minimum 16 guage speaker wire, and of course the Bose 901 active EQ that matches the series of your speakers. I use a Yamaha mx-830 power amp & cx-830 pre amp 170 wpc They (Bose) claim that they're unlimited power handling, But if you use a amplifier with to little power and overdrive it to make it louder, you could damage the speakers or amp. With my 170 watt class A amp,the 901 series 6 will blow wind across the room. Go with the best amp you can afford! best for money- Yamaha,Denon,Onkyo!

My Behringer BXL3000A bass amp's volume control makes a noise, so what could be the problem?

If the noise appears only when you rotate the control, there is dust inside it. With the amp disconnected from mains, rotate the volume control from min to max back and forth for about 30 times. See if this helps. This is not a definite solution, you maybe have to replace the potentiometer or spray some potentiometer cleaner. Good luck!

Yamaha 860 st

this could be the pre amp transistor or the power amp , it will need to be tested and other components tested also to make sure they are not causing the pre amp to fail or the power amp to fail
if its the pre amp it will be cheap , if its the power amp then it won't be cheap , other small components are cheap

Losing sound, hearing scratchy noise from the speakers

This description was copied from a description of the Creek 5350SE. `The circuit consists of a passive input stage and volume control which then feed the power amplifier section. It is possible to make this pre-amp section an active device by adding a gain module'. This sounds like an old problem with volume controls which are essentially, a potentiometer. If there is absolutely no voltage on the slider of the potentiometer then no noise is generated, and amplified. In your case a voltage is generated when you power up from your input devices, such as a record player or cd player or mixer unit. The retailer in LA could not recreate the problem as he may not have had the same audio set-up. Try to isolate the input by not connecting the other units, and switch on to test. If you find the culprit unit you will find it has a DC voltage on its output on switch on, which dies away slowly. Touching the metal case is a way of discharging this voltage build up, and you should also make sure the units metalwork are connected, with extra wires. If you can make the pre-amp section an active device by adding the gain module this will most likely cure the noise problem. If the output speakers protection relay circuit, inhibit time can be increased by adjustment this would mask the effect, which is what its for.
