You may need to adjust via Settings. On your desktop, do the right click on your mouse or touch pad (if using the laptop) and click on the Display Settings > Scale and layout, and select the recommended size, resolution, and orientation.

Screen is faulty. It divides in equal half and displays well on one side and dims on the other. I can read info on both sides but dim side displays faded colour. External monitor works fine.

Usually not. The circuitry that drives the panel is integrated with the screen.

It's some work but those screens are serviceable and you can often find a good replacement on eBay at a fraction of the cost of a new HP part. A local small computer shop could probably swap it out for you in less than an hour.

Good luck.

Screen goes out

classic symptoms of an inverter board failing. The inverter board is a circuit board in the display, usually near the hinges on the display. This board converts the power to run the light(s) that light up the display. Usually cost less than $20, and are fairly easy to replace.

Black screen

If everyting else appears to be working, hook a spare monitor to the video output usually on the back, if picture is okay the inverter board is more than likely bad located under the laptop screen, the other less likely is the backlight behind the display screen, but if both show the same symptoms it is the video graphics chip built into the motherboard.

Dead screen on acer aspire 4310 laptop

If everything else is lighting up and is working, hook a spare monitor to the video output usually on the back, if picture okay! the inverter board just below the screen is more likely the problem, or it is the built in backlight behind the display, "less likely" but, if both show the same symptom it is the video graphics card that is part of the motherboard.

NO SCREEN

Hello!
Depends on circumstances: if your display glows, but there is no characters(menu, ##), your t-con board is at fault. The one, what adapts display to main(signal) board. It always attached to panel itself, covered by metal shield. Tough to get to it, but less expensive. If display won't glow, but flashes once and then quits: inverter(s?) at fault. In some TVs there are 2 inverters: master and slave. Usually, just one is bad, but better to replace them both, unless you can diagnose which is bad. Bad one might have blown fuse and/or burned IC chip on board.
Good luck with your project,
thanks,
Alex.

The screen on my toshiba satellite a135-s2386 has a red hue for the second that it remains on during start up. It will display fine on an external monitor. If an external monitor is not connected, and you...

This sounds like a problem with the back light. The back light is generally a small cool fluorescent light. The problem could be with either the fluorescent light or the inverter board that supplies the voltage to run the lamp. If you are able to disassemble it yourself you can usually buy an inverter and lamp online. This requires a good amount of dis-assembly and expertise but costs less. At a higher price but less expertise is a complete lcd display including frame and covers. This basically just requires removal of the top cover of the laptop to access the screws that hold the display on and access to the cables.

Best of luck, Jim

My Toshiba Satellite A215-S7428 seems as if it's on, but the screen is blank. I have removed the battery several times. It usually takes a while to boot up. I have had this problem before and removing the...

It could be a sympton of display cable failure or the display has failed, try plugging into an external source such as a monitor or tv and then try booting, if you get a display then it is the notebook screen or cable that may be faulty, hope this helps.

Yea i have a gateway 450sx4 laptop and when i turn it on it stays black for a while and when the screen finally turns on it blurry and its different colors and it just shows lines how can i fix this?

It's likely that your screen is "fried" (faulty) ... try to connect your laptop to an external VGA monitor, and see if the screen shows up (on the external monitor) properly. You may have to toggle the output display (device) from computer screen to external monitor ..using Fn+F3.
If it displays on your external monitor properly, it means your laptop screen is no good. You can replace the laptop screen, or just continue to use the external monitor.
If it does the same (blurry & different color, etc.) on your external monitor, then, your video card/module on your laptop is bad. This usually happens less often.

Battery level don't show on display.

hi friend,

follow these steps
  1. Turn off your LCD display screen. I know this is hard—who likes shoving their face against the camera to compose a shot through the little viewfinder? But the LCD screen single-handed-ly drains a lot of power.
  2. Minimize the picture preview to the least amount of time possible—usually one second. This uses less LCD screen time, thus less power.
  3. Dim the brightness on your LCD screen. A dimmer display extends battery life by consuming less power to light the screen. This might make the display harder to see, but usually only in direct sunlight.
  4. Set the power saver to the least amount of time. Power saver lets your digital camera “sleep” when not in use, but doesn’t shut it down entirely. To “wake up” your digital camera, simply click the shutter button.
  5. Use your zoom as little as possible. The motor that moves the lens uses power. This also goes for repeatedly turning your digital camera on and off if it has an extend able lens.
  6. Turn off the continuous focus. Again, constantly using motors and electronics to ready your shot drastically minimizes battery life.
  7. Don’t push the shutter button half-way down until you’re ready to shoot. Pushing the shutter button (constantly resetting and refocusing) will drain battery life.
  8. Use the flash only when necessary. Your digital camera’s “auto flash” option should take care of this, but make sure your flash isn’t going off in broad daylight.
  9. Don’t delete pictures from your digital camera unless necessary. This consumes power. Wait until you download the pictures to your computer before deleting.
  10. This one’s basic, but charge your battery often. Lithium ion batteries, which most digital cameras use, don’t have “battery memory” like older alkaline. In fact, lithium ions work better and last longer if charged completely and regularly.

R40 screen is dead

Since a used R40 will be in the neighborhood of $300, a $100 or less for the screen might not be too bad of a price. Without the screen, you have a $330 paper weight. With the replacement screen, you have a working computer. And that would cost you $200 less than buying a replacement R40.
Hopefully this line of thought will help you make the decision.
