Hi Earl,

Sometime it could just be of aging. I have a 130, it was having similar problems, until i realized it was the screen not showing, but power on turning on. In your case, I probably probably try a hard factory reset as follows:

To perform a master reset:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press the PAGE, ENTER2, and POWER buttons simultaneously.
  3. Release all buttons once the Do you really want to erase all user data? message appears.
  4. Select Yes.
hope this helps!

Kevin

How come the garmin 120 radio isn't compatible with standard Motorola walkie talkies

When programmed to the same frequency and code settings the Garin Rino 120 should match the Motorola TalkAbout line of radios. They are all using the same UHF FRS/GMRS frequencies. Here is a link to the Garmin user guide where you will find the frequency charts on pgs. 100-102: http://www.uky.edu/~jmlhot2/courses/for480/Rino120_OwnersManual.pdf
Motorola TalkAbout user guides can be found at: http://shop.giantintl.com/Manuals.asp

To make un full reset

Hello Rahooty,

There is no way to set the date and time becayse the system clock in your Garmin Rhino 120 should be updating based on the information it receives from the GPS satellites. The radio should auto locate itself within about five minutes of being turned on providing it has a clear view of the sky. Once it sucessfully auto locates the radio's clock and position should reset. There does not appear to be any other reset built into the device.

Try taking the batteries out for at least 5 minutes. Then, reinstall the batteries, turn the unit on, and give the unit 5-10 minutes to auto locate. If it doesn't, you may need to contact Garmin support for additional sevice.

Best Regards,
Ken

Transfer data

Hello tompkin,

Programming the Garmin Rhino 120 using a PC requires an interface kit and may also require a RS-232 to USB converter cable or a 9-pin to 25-pin serial adapter depending on what interface is available on your computer.

The interface kit and cables are available on the manufacturer’s homepage for the product: www.garmin.com/products/rino120. Click on the “Accessories” tab and scroll down.

Best Regards,

Agent Ken
