that battery makes the NVRAM hold the BIOS configs. when replaced this data is gone now. so go to the PCs bios. power on, and hammer F2 key, (bios hot key) then in the menus there pick reset BIOS defaults. done ! now go to nic network same BIOS pages. turn off PXE but enable NIC do not enable PXE. then in same menus, go to boot order make the HDD first. in list it now boots.

Your computer has other problem than the CMOS battery. Most of the desktops if not all can start without battery. Moreover if the battery was used up or very low in power usually the Dell desktops will let you know about it so you can replace it. I suggest you disconnect all drives and extra PCI cards. After turnning the pc on you will notice if the Bios screen shows up quickly. Then add one component at the time and see if you can find what is causing the problem.
This error usually occurs when the CMOS/BIOS battery is flat. Replace the BIOS battery and then boot up and go into the BIOS setting to setup the Date & Time etc.
I believe you have used the wrong type of CMOS battery. Try putting the old one back in and see if it will boot. If not the CMOS NAND chip may be broken. If this is the case contact Dell and order a new one.
This is the solution from dell website :"Connect your computer to an electrical outlet to charge the battery. If the problem persists, call Dell for technical assistance". if laptop have warrenty then take it to DELL. if no warrenty, if you know how to open laptop , just replace the CMOS battery. or take out the CMOS battery for minute or two, and put it back. try both methods. if problem persists take it to DELL. best of luck..
Hi! If you are using a surge protector, try to plug the machine directly to the wall then check if you will get the same error message. If yes then try to check if the cmos battery is securely placed on the motherboard, if yes then try to reseat the cmos battery. If all things fails try to call dell support and ask for a cmos battery replacement if your system is in warranty then they will replace it.Hope this helps...
Sounds like you need to change the CMOS battery, the time being wrong everytime you boot is a good sign but also it losing its settings in bios is also another sign
I figured out how to ghost a Dell Precision 490 with a 32 bit Windows XP Image! Like you I had the same problem where it would constantly reboot after I imaged it with an existing 490 image. The answer is actually very simple. Boot up your Precision 490 and hit F2 to enter the bios. Select Drives and then SATA Operation, change it to "Raid Autodetect / ATA". Reboot the 490 and re image the machine, it will now work!
