If the plug is the problem then you can replace just the faulty end. Many times actual socket in laptop it the problem and may not to be easy to repair

Not a quick fix, but if it is a socket connector, you can take it apart and replace the socket. Check your local electronics components store.

SOURCE: the ac power adapter type cannot be

Dell power supplies use 3 wires. One detects the power supply. If you are using a Dell supply then that wire is broken inside the cord or at the connection. If this a universal power supply it only has 2 wires.

SOURCE: have a dell inspiron with

From doing a google search for "AC Adapter Cannot Be Determined" it appears your power adapter is defective and/or the output voltage is not up to full voltage. From the many posts about this that I find doing the google search it's a fairly common problem. If it's still under warranty contact Dell Support. If not, you'd better buy one replacement. There are tons of online stores selling this.

Try this:

SOURCE: Dell Latitude states connect 65W or higher power

Hi Friend, In this case I believe, you can try updating the BIOS of the system and check if that fixes the issue. You can find the BIOS drivers from the following link:
hhttp://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&ServiceTag=&SystemID=LAT_PNT_PM_D610&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=
But please make sure to connect the AC adapter while updating the BIOS
Also please make sure to select the Operating System that is installed on the system
Please let me know if it was of some help?
Thank you.

SOURCE: when i m connecting ac

Hi Maxinfotech Its a common problem for DELL laptops. Most of the time the cause of this a bad AC Adapter but sometimes a firmware reset for the motherboard is the fix. I recommend you try replacing the AC adapter first than try to reset the firmware which could cause a system malfunction sometimes when not done properly. Thanks for using Fixya

Check your adapter for lose connection. Try to wiggle the connection between your ac adapter and your computer. You can also check your computer's port for any sign of defects.

I hope this helps!

Good Day Psmith!

It looks like the AC adaptor is not making the right supply voltage needed for your laptop.

If you have a multi tester, you can test your ac adaptor to see if it has stable 20V voltage output supply needed for the laptop to make it work.

Set your tester to DC range. Plug the ac adaptor to your wall socket. Hold the other end of the ac adaptor (the one you connect to your laptop. Insert the red (positive) lead into the center of the adapter pin, then touch the black (negative) lead to the outside metal part of the pin.

Read the display in your tester. If the adapter is working properly, the meter should read between 19 to 20 volts of the rating. If the adapter is faulty, the meter will read below 18volts.

If that would be the case, I'm afraid you will need to replace your ac adaptor.

You can purchase online a replacement ac adaptor for lenovo 8932.
