From the description it is a software problem, If you were sticking things in the scanner bar that would not help and it will prevent the laptop from working.
Find a USB device, such as a memory-stick, that is "USB 2.0" and connect it to a USB port. If Windows XP pops-up a window ("this device will perform better when connected to a USB 2.0 port"), then you have connected it to a USB 1.1 port.
Yes, you can connect a scanner, if it has a USB connection. Not all laptops have a parallel-port ("old-style" printer) port, but some scanners require a parallel-port.
Like me, so, you would need to go to the Adaptec.com website and find your computer or scanner and download for "Free", the latest SCSI Card driver, in order for you computer to recognise that you have a SCSI Card in your machine. Once you restart your machine, you will find that your scanner, should work perfectly.
Hello Edward,
In order for you scanner to work correctly you will need the drivers for the scanner..( basically the software that supports the scanner) If you have not got the Disc the only way you can do this now is connect the Laptop to the internet via wireless or with a cable then if you go to Google and type in the search bar...
drivers for *********** scanner.
*** = make of scanner.
You will then see a list of potential site that will have the drivers for that particular scanner. you may need to have a play with the wording in google. Ie might be worth putting the model number in there as well.
simply download the drivers and run the program this should prompt you step by step in what you need to do Ie when to connect the scanner to the laptop etc.
the printer and scanner have separate tcp\ip address's
on copier panel check system default/counter key go to scanner and check ip address also make sure file manager is running on laptop
Keep in mind that connecting a specific scanner to the computer would have nothing to do with the computer now powering on unless there are physical computer hardware problems. Disconnect any uneccessary external peripherals from the computer (printers, scanners, webcams, etc.) and see if the computer will power on. Remove the computer battery and put it back in. Check power connections and test to make sure the electrical outlet is working by plugging something else into it.
