a simple capacitor tester will tell if the capacitor is bad. turn off power, label wires and where they go and test cap after discharging it . to discharge simply connect the terminals together once its been removed( you can use an insulated screwdriver to connect them and discharge any stored voltage) and then touch meter leads to each set of terminals and read the microfared output. the setting on the meter is usually labeled uf. or you can take it to the electric motor shop and let them test it. it has a rating value labeled on the side. usually it has to be within 10 percent of the rated value or its bad . if the cap checks good then the start winding in the motor is probably bad or weak, then a new motor is called for, it is usually not worth the time wait and trouble of getting it rewound etc. take the old motor out and label and measure exactly how and where it was mounted. label and make diagrams. saves a lot of time reassembling exact as it came out. turn off the power , check it with a meter to be sure , short it with a screwdriver to be sure the meter works ,and then treat it as if it was still hot as much as possible when you work on it.

SOURCE: Cooling fan motor is making loud humming noise

You will have to pull out the light engine. That will consist of 4 or more screws and disconnecting some plugs. The the whole unit slides out where you can get to the fan housing.

Unless you're mechanically inclined, you should not try it as you could damage the assembly.

I don't know the part number off hand and some of those have newer part numbers as replacement for the original. Just do a google search to come up with a part number.

My air condotioner is blowing out warmair. It blows out cold air forabout 5 minutes then warm again it's a 5050 series

It sounds like the unit is cycling on internal overload. The overload is switch the protects the motor from getting too warm. This would explain your cooling "cycling".

Check the condenser (the outside coil with vertical fins, the back of the unit). Is it clear of any debris? If not clean it using water or compressed air, using care not to bend or damage the fins or electrical wires/components.

Check the condenser fan motor. You can usually see the condenser fan motor through vents in the sheet metal. Check to see the the condenser fan motor runs when cooling is turned on, secondly check to make sure the fan blade is not broken, usually the blades are plastic. If the motor or fan blade is bad, you need a replacement.

Hello Nickel129,

I understand that you are having a problem with the refrigerator. The freezer is cooling just fine however, the fridge is not cooling enough or at all.

1. Check to see if you here the fan in the back of your freezer compartment turning.
a. if you do not here the fan then you need to replace it.
1. Unplug unit (fridge)
2. Remove the screws holding the bottom (if any) and the back cover.
3. Locate the fan and remove the wires
4. unbolt the fan and remove the fan blade (some new motors do not come with the blade)
5. Purchase a new motor at a local hardware/appliance store
2. If the motor is running you need to check the air tunnels (pasages in the frezzer)
a. Remove the covers in the freezer as above. There will be one, two or three holes that go thru the bottom and into the fridge. If these holes are full of ice defrost (w/water, hair dryer, etc.) so that air can pass thru the holes.

The above should help you to fix your refrigerator.

Thank you for choosing for your questions

Freezer not freezing, fan in rear bottom of unit not running, condenser extremely hot to touch. ge gdl20kcsabs

Hi, If the compressor is running but the fan is not, you will need to replace the fan motor. First make sure that there is nothing stopping the fan blade.
If you have a window or box fan, let it blow on the compressor to cool it down. This will help you get by until you can replace the condensor fan motor.
I hope this helps you. Please let me know if I can assist you further.

The fan blades under the motor are broken I like my dirt devil triangle please help fix it.

I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Changing the fan should not be a problem; it happens every so often if you pickup something big and the plastic fan breaks. The cost to repair is about $10.00 to $20.00 plus labor and you can repair it yourself if you are handy or take it to a local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area and they can perform the fan replacement. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.
