SOURCE: picture size has changed to

There is usually a button on the cable/satellite remote. On cable remotes it is hd zoom# and on the satellite remotes it is either format or aspect.

But just say you press that button and the image does not resize. It is possible that the cable box/satellite receiver is not set at the correct resolution for your television set. Looking at the model set you have your cable box/satellite receiver needs to be set up for a 4:3 television and not a 16:9 wide television and the resolution should be set at 480i.

If by some chance this is not the correct model number and you do have an hdtv your television could be on the wrong input.

SOURCE: Can't format picture without the factory remote on

For Emerson brand TVs, there is no such factory remote control to adjust its parameters. You have to get into its service mode option to adjust its settings. For this purpose, you have to make a service remote control; out of the supplied original remote control you have now. Converting the original remote control, to an adjust remote control (Service remote) is easy. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts. Surf the site with patience. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/
Converting the remote control to a service remote control, and to enter its service mode and adjustment details are given.

I have a Emerson lf391em4 i do not ha e the factory remote only a universal. How do i change the picture size?

Universal remote is no good for accessing menus and you need an original replacement or a compatible remote. I bought a compatible from Amazon or ebay for not much more than a universal.

Emerson TV cutting off top and bottom of display

Its picture settings should be adjusted. Now it is set to 'wide' format I assumes. If you want to get full screen, the display format should be chaged. Without a remote control, it is not possible.

I have a 19in Emerson Flat Screen TV that I am using as a PC Monitor and it isn't using the full screen. How do I fix it to use the whole screen?

You might not be able to. If the screen size doesn't adjust with the wide/view mode/picture format button on the television remote control you have to change the resolution on the pc. You right click on an empty spot on the desktop, choose properties, and then choose the settings tab. A lower resolution will cause the image to fill the screen but the icons get really big. The image isn't as refined. However you may be able to play around with it enough to find a good enough resolution and a view mode with the Emerson remote that will work out for you (a combination of the two).

How do I change it from wide screen to regular? I have a black area above and below the picture.

Hello
You can set the picture size by remote control itself.

You can vide 480i format programmes in three picture sizes. 4:3, 16:9, and ZOOM
You can change the picture size by pressing the PICTURE SIZE button on the remote control.
4:3 Picutre size
To fill the screen, the top and bottom edges are extedted more widely, although the center of the picture remains near the former ratio.
If receiving a 4:3 programme, the image size is displayed in its originally formatted proportion.
16:9 picure size
This image displays the size of standard 16:9 with black bars at the top and bottom.
If receiving a 4:3 programme, the image is displayed with black bars at the top and bottom and stretched wider.

NOTE: If a fixed bar remains on the screen for a long period of time, the image can become parmanantly engrained in the screen and cause subtle but permanent ghost images. Never leave your TV for long periods of time while it is displaying these images.

Zoom picture size [for 16:9 formats]
The entire picture is uniformly enlarged --it is stretched the same amount both wider and taller (retains its original proportion). The right and left edges of the picture may be hidden.
OK.

How do i adjust the picture to fit the screen?

The wide button on your remote adjusts the picture size. Each time you press it you adjust the picture. If repeatedly pressing the wide button is not changing the picture size check you cable/satellite remote control. Look for the hdzoom# button. There may also be an aspect or format button. When you adjust this the picture size changes and between the Sony remote and the cable/satellite remote you should be able to come to a happy medium. If the picture size still isn't changing you might not be set to the correct resolution i.e. 1080i on your cable/satellite box. It might be set too low or you might be in the wrong input (av 1 av 2 hdmi 1 hdmi 2) etc.

The problem with my NEC 68T90 TV is that the screen resolution is not correct. At 4:3 ratio, I can't see the sides of any video or TV program that I'm watching. Is there a problem with the hardware?

Try the aspect button on your remote, or if you have this hooked up to a cable or satellite converter, there are screen resolution preferences, you can change the screen resolution here, go the the menu portion and look for video/audio field
