SOURCE: KEEP GETTING ERROR 321 WHEN SETTING UP LINKSYS WRT54GS ROUTER

Router setup
If you are using the cd that comes with the router, that is the problem. You do not have to use the cd. Go to the control panel and un-install the program that the cd installed. then:
Shutdown your PC. Unplug the power from the router and the cable modem.
Wait 30 sec. then plug in the power to the cable modem, wait 30 sec. then plug the power to the router. Wait till you have "Internet" light then restart your PC. The PC should pick up an IP address and you should be able to get on-line. This is if you have a cable service provider. If you have DSL, the router needs to be configured with PPOe.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Are you trying to run the CD that comes with the router ?
You get this error when your computer is not able to connect to the router.
Actually you can say that it is a bug in the CD.
Even if your computer is connected to the router, it will say that it is not connected.
You can set up the router manually without the CD.
make sure that your computer is connected to one of the Ethernet port on the router.
Reset the router for 30 seconds. wait for 1 minute.
unplug the power to the router and plug it back in.
Wait for a minute and try to set up the router manually.
Make sure that your computer is able to go online directly through the modem.
If your computer is able to go online through the modem, that means the modem is working fine.
You will need to connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
open the set up page of the router and change the settings of the router according to the ISP.

Error 321

You get this error when you try to install the router using the CD.
This error shows that your computer is not connected to the router or the connection between the router and the computer is not working. When you run the CD , it will ask you to connect the computer and the modem to the router with the cable. You will see all the lights lit up on the router according to the instructions but still you will get error 321.
In this case you will need to check the firewall settings of the computer. If there is any firewall installed on the computer, then turn it OFF. Make sure that the Local area connection on the computer is not Disabled. The local area connection should not have any static IP address assigned. If there is any then set the IP address to automatic.
Try to run the CD again and see if that works. If that doesn't work then try to setup your router without the CD. You can setup your router manually.

Linsys router not working with Dsl modem error 321

thank you for the clarification,
u need to perform the following steps:
1)donot use the cd for the setup.take the cd out from the computer
2)reset the router(if you look at the back of the linksys router you will see there is a small hole which contains the reset button, hold down the reset button while the router is on,once the time period of 30 sec is over turn off the router, turn it back on after 60 sec.
3)check the cables between your modem, computer and router.
4)the correct cables sequence should be following, there would be a cable going from you internet service provider modem to the back of the router(the post should be the one that is labelled internet or dsl) and there should be another ethernet(yellow/grey colored cable going from ports 1,2,3 and 4 )cable going to the back of the computer make sure the cables are plugged in properly
5)turn of the modem,router and computer,in a sequence that is given,modem----router----computer.
6)wait for 2 mins and then turn on modem wait for the light to be steady and then turn on the router wait for the lights to be steady and then at last turn the computer.
