Hi
Do an ohms check on the element. With an ohms meter check the reading between the elements. The reading should be between 12 and 16 ohms for a 110v machine and 50 to 60 for a 220v machine. If you have no reading or a higher reading you have a bad element.

SOURCE: Yellow light flashes, colored water leaks. Assume

If the water is reddish or black looking the iron insides may be rusted out, and is bad enough that the seal has been compromised. This happens if water is left in iron when storing. If the iron is still warrantied return it to the store where it was purchased, or buy a new one.

I disagree... I think its the thermostat reset switch. A little red button once you open up the machine. look towards the front of the boiler and bush the button. Same thing happened to my Rancilio Silvia.... I opened it up, hit the reset switch... and voila! Working again! Here's the YouTube Video on the details. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQdJNm9RV68

Remove the 4 screws on the top panel. Make sure machine is not connected to power. Check the thermostats on the boiler, there should be 3 of them, push in on the small red pin in the middle of them one of them should click in. Now fill up your tank plug machine in and turn on.

Get yourself a repair manual on ebay, they cost less than a tank of gas. If the dealer told you which part is bad, then have him order it for you, this is not going to be a parts store item. This is a really common problem, like sitting on a toaster or electric blanket that you keep outside and use every day.
Anything that gets hot and cold over and over is going to get brittle and break.

Iam looking for a less expensive grinder to use with my Rancilio Silva. Is there one?

My local coffee specialist suggested a sunbeam conical cafe series grinder. He sells a lot of the Rancilio Sylvia machines and recommends the sunbeam to go with them. Retails at $219. Just bought one and very pleased with it.

My Rancilio Silva is not making the water or steam hot anymore. Is it fairly easy to replace the heating element?

Rancilio class 6 E compact authomatic spilling water

  1. check the solenoid valve and electronic comand for boiler filing. solenoid valve could be leaking, electronic part could have weak contact with level detector wire or relay (driver of solenoid valve and motor) has bad contacts, and does not open circuit circuit remains all the time closed.
  2. check the presurestat, be sure that he opens cirquit at 1.5 bar snd does not angage heating element to heat up more.

New Rancilio Silva - steamed milk not perfect

please relay on your experience realizing that you now have new steam pipe(with different holes in the end of it and different pressure)
you will need to get use to them and get maximum quality of that steam pipe.
my advice:
  1. every time hold your hand in the bottom of milk container, so that you will prevent overheating which often gives the result you mentioned.
  2. every time you use cold milk.
