Acrylic is a solid sheet material that is heated and vacuum formed to the desired shape. It is then reinforced at the back with fiberglass to give it strength. It is a higher-end material, very durable and super easy to clean. Fiberglass is a material that adheres to a mold and then a gelcoat finish is sprayed onto it. The most common material used in tubs and showers and is the most economical. Cast iron tubs are forged and the finish is applied in powder form while the tub is hot causing the finish to melt onto the cast iron. Synthetic tubs are molded and then a gelcoat finish is applied like the fiberglass tubs.

Your question is: You have a claw foot bath to install in a tiled bathroom. How do you fix the bath to the floor so it is secure and doesn't move?

A little clear silicone caulk under each claw is my favorite method. Locate the tub in it"s final position. Set up the drain and water connections so that you can complete them without moving the tub. Lift each end in turn just a bit and aply some caulk, you may need a helper. Wipe off the excess. Then hook up.

The porcelain is easier to clean,and wont rust,but it can also be chipped off if dropped.Its really a personal choice after that.there is nothing wrong with the plain old cast iron ones.

If the water is entering through the overflow on the twist mech. then the gasket should be tightened and or adjusted. If possible feel around on the top of that fitting from the back side to rule out water leaking from other source, such as backsplash or faucet from escutcheons. It sounds like you have a pretty good idea of how to fix it. I hope this helps.

Would have been easier to advise if you had mentioned whether it is the bath or tub you wish to retain or the tap or faucet.

The tub is likely constructed from cast iron, a robust material not prone to more than a covering of surface rust. Cast iron can be a brittle material that is intolerant to tension and impacts so it is very important to remove fittings in a way that is considerate to the material.

Most taps are made of polished cast brass that has been chrome plated. Removal is usually a matter of removing the retaining nut. The hole in the bath is generally square with a similar size and shaped square cast in the shank of the tap to ensure correct positioning. In those days a tap would be fitted with plenty of putty under the flange and around the square.

Over time the putty sets like concrete and because it was probably smeared along the threads during fitting it tends to make the nut very tight and difficult to move. If the threads have been painted it is an added complication.
The nut should either be split and carefully levered away from the thread or the thread itself must be thoroughly cleaned to make it easier to remove the nut with a good-fitting wrench, holding the body of the tap to neutralise the force being applied below.

If access is good a power drill and a harsh rotary wire brush could be used for cleaning along with careful scraping. If access isn't very good then a paint stripping solution would help.

Your taking about a baler right. Adjust the arm so that it comes up and rubs on ,but not tight enough to wear out the knotter claw it also has to come up far enough so the twine can be grabbed by the claw

It is not recommended to use any cast iron pots or skillets on a Frigidaire smooth top. In your manual it provides the best type of cookware material and cast iron is a poor heat conductor. Due to the weight of the cast iron it can cause scratches or damage the cooktop. I hope this information has been helpful. -Matt

if it is not in,under or right outside your house you can always shut it off at the water meter,usually located on the property line under a metal cover. use a crescent wrench or channel lock pliers. if more than one family is on this one meter, notify everyone involved about your repair problem and co-ordinate a time to turn off the water that is convenient for everyone.

They actually sell ceramic paint to repaint these. It should be available at your local hardware store. I repainted a claw foot bathtub with the ceramic paint kit and it looks like new again. If this helps please leave feedback...

If your tub is porcelain over cast iron and the cast is not cracked your ok. If the cast is cracked then the chances of the crack continuing are great, more so with any vibrations and changes in weight distribution.
