SOURCE: how to transfer mini dv tape to dvd or vcd
you should have a few choices with this model: usb, firewire, composite a/v..
this link will take you to canon's download page for your camera,
the dvmessenger app should let you view your camera on the comp, use it for videoconferencing, and view it online, as well as remotely control it, although it may not let you transfer much.
your camera should have come with an installation cd that included digital video software. if it did not, you will have to contact canon for a replacement cd.
i would recommend downloading the product manual from the above site and checking page 134
in addition you can use the memory card to transfer files via a memory card reader on the pc, these can be picked up inexpensively at most camera and computer stores. your camera however should be fine if you are using windows xp and the usb cable for your camera.
hope this helps,
trin
SOURCE: GR-D72 Mini DV Digital Camcorder makes clicking sound when tape running
the clicking is from the capstain turning the tape -- and perhaps the metal cage holding the tape.. if it is bent then the movement of the capstain may be pushing it in an eccentric fashion.
send it in for repair.
SOURCE: DV tapes will not load
The problem you are having is caused by the grease that is used to move the reel positioning mechanism has hardened. Once the grease hardens the reels can no longer position properly. The grease needs to be removed and replaced. Do not remove the cassette assembly, only remove the top plate. Also check the pinch roller grease, make sure the pinch roller moves freely.

SOURCE: will not eject mini dv tape
I had the same problem. I cycled through the eject process until it finally gave me back my tape. I had to send it back to have the tape carriage replaced
This is usually caused by an oxidized, misaligned or defective Audio/Video drum. If you've tried running a cleaning tape through the camera with no results the camera will need to be serviced by a qualified service technician.
