You can go to the dealer and have the new remote and the car re-programed so they match and the old luck transmitter with not work on your car. Good luck

Hummers (all models) use programmable "Remote Keyless Entry" transmitters, not simply lock/unlock units.
For example, you can program the unit to make the horn "sound off" (or not) when you press the lock button once, as a confirmation that the vehicle is secure. Programming the transmitter is somewhat tricky; however, the instructions are fully documented in the owners' manual.
Since you asked "why ... ?" and not "how ...?", please consult your manual for instructions on programming your keyless remote.
Programming is tricky: inserting key in ignition, holding the lock button down for 30 seconds, then turning the key off/on and then releasing the lock button ... sheesh! .. It is beyond description.

SOURCE: The left rear door lock
Hello: The lock/unlock unit is part of the mechanical door lock assembly. The first thing to do is remove the door panel. Check and make sure the linkages are all connected, then make sure the wires are properly connected to the door lock assembly. If all the previous is ok then you will need to replace the lock/unlock assembly. to do this you need to remove the mechanical lock assembly first then remove the actuator. It might be best to have a professional accomplish this task. You also should disconnect the actuator an check to make sure you have 12v going to the actuator when you activate the door lock switch.

There is a manual release on the inside of the hatch door.
Somewhere in the center of the door under an oval cover plate you can open it with a screwdriver.
