My guess is the oven controls are smart enough to know something is not working, including the oven heating element, the oven thermostat, or the oven on switch. These are all electrical parts that are dangerous unless you have appliance repair knowledge and experience! You may be able to find a lightly used replacement for less than a service call.
SOURCE: oven won't heat
I have EXACTLY the same problem, occured today 9/25/07. Model RBS305PDQ16. At least I know I am not crazy... You know when Ronald Regan was President the CIA analysts assured him that the Soviet Bloc was ready to crumble because the people were constatly complaining that "nothing seened to work anymore." ...must have included ovens...
SOURCE: kitchenaid double oven shut down!
The problem is they overheat because hot air is drawn in by the blower and overheats the outer chamber of the oven where the thermo fuse link is. The one or two fuse links are blown simple replacement but have to remove oven (two person job) remove outer shell and find it (them) in the back of the oven. Also the fuse link wire going into the main processor is probably blown.

Atlanta...sounds like you may have a power supply problem or the panel is bad. Cut the power, open the unit up and see if there is a fuse in there or a reset. No good? Then replace the circuit board. They just, well, die sometime. Happened to my microwave. Some units may be available remanufactured. Look around on the web.
SOURCE: KitchenAid KERA807PSS01 oven won't shut off until breaker thrown
assuming its a stainless stell oven? if so heres the par tyou need its a membrane switch( your cancel button ceased to operate corrrect???not a bad part to install you need to remove a few screws from under control panel itself( perhaps a few on the sides, the front control will lift off and this part is installed from behind the control panel (SHUT THE BREAKER(S))
part number 9756595ES
in the mean time instead of shuttin off the breaker toreset you can simply( requires reading manual ) set your oven to time bake. it will shut off automatically after predetermined time has been obtained.
Testimonial: "worked, thanks"

Ouch...sounds like the control module is blown. Thats the electronic timer. I've known this happen on several occasions. Bad luck!
