Question about Hardware & Accessories
The light would only work if the light arms where in a specific position, and as soon as you would move it the light would go off. Is there anyway to "troubleshoot" this without buying a whole new light?
Owner's manual troubleshooting? Otherwise my wild guess: Change the arms without power, tighten and retry plugin.

Is the belt loose? It sounds like you're missing the pulley. Pulleys are usually available from Autozone or Napa (usually one bolt through the center to secure it to the arm).

It's not that hard to replaced, and can be done with common tools.
3.4 camshaft sensor removal:
Remove the serpentine belt, Disconnect the sensor wire harness, Remove the power steering pump (just remove it from the mount and out of the way), Remove the attachment bolt to the sensor, Remove the sensor, (note spray around the sensor with brake parts cleaner before removal to keep dirt from entering the engine)
To install: Lubricate the new O ring with engine oil before installing the new camshaft sensor, Tighten the retaining bolt to 8 ft.lbs. connect the sensor's electrical wire, reinstall the power steering pump, reinstall the serpentine belt.
Start the car and go out for the night with the money you just saved, You can pick up the camshaft sensor at Auto Zone and they can also give you the step by step instructions to getting the job done. Good luck and hope this helps. Take's just under 1 1/2 hour to do. You can do it in under 1 hour though if your good with tools.

SOURCE: I bought a 2004 Lancer
i bought a used 2004 mitsubishi lancer ls sportback with the same problem. a google search told me this was a known defect and was covered under a dealer recall--no cost to me. my local dealer did the job. it took at least a half day--the entire dash, they said, had to be removed. the fix isn't perfect, but it is light years above and beyond what it was b4. the new knobs aren't silky smooth, but the old ones needed tools to turn!
