I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Dirt Devil Model #M088300 Upright Vacuum. SOURCE: Dirt Devil Extreme Quick Vac - Won't turn on

Check that the filters are completely clear and not blocked - especially the top filter on top of the bin assembly. If its clogged completely brush it free of dirt and then reassemble. Make sure the inner cone filter and mesh filter is also completely clean. Then check the hose and main dust channel - something is clogged that makes this machine overheat and stop working - and often with this model (Hoover also make it in the UK under the Alyx name) its down to clogged filters or small clogs of dust in the dust channels.
