The same thing happened with my dsc-w220. while i was on chat to get help i tried inserting and removing the usb connector cable to the camera. i did it a 5 or 6 times. it works now.
i think i had the same problem, if u press the home button and then press shooting then hit the flash button on the right hand side it should change the mode.
actually when it starts it starts like this pics with red or purple shades , noise ,distorted, blurred pics , discolored then it goes completely black
dont worry just call Sony for free repairs it is a manufac fault in thousands of cameras with different brands just call sony about ur problem PLS RATE ME FIXYA for help
Sony has issued service advisories for these problems
take the battery out and let the camera sit for an hour or two, take out the memory card, try to view photos on computer, if it does not work, you will have to format the card and start over. Some times when the format on the card is bad, the camera will not work properly. I have two cybershots myself.
