With Win XP SP3, in normal mode it would only popup the autorun but the install would never start when clicked on.

Installing in safe mode made the installation possible.
The 2 post-installation actions described worked fine.

Only mistake: there is no other winfax directory inside c:\program files\winfax. It's directly there that we find the 2 programs to launch.

Thanks a lot. Before I applied your solution all installations on freshly reinstalled WinXP had become impossible.

Once installation completed, everything seems to be working fine. System is not significantly slowed down by Winfax.

Try installing winfax from safe mode. I was having the same problem and this worked for me. However, when you install from safe mode, you will get error messages staing that the printer driver can not be installed. Do not worry about this, as you can install the printer drivers manually. Now, when you do the install, halfway thru, you will need to restart your computer. If you restart and the install does not finish by itself, go to program files, look for the winfax folder, open it and you will see another winfax folder. Open that, and first click the file INSPRINT.exe. This will manually install the print drivers. Second, click WNTSETUP, this will continue the install process.

Have re-installed WinFax Pro 10.03. At every system start up WinFax install program appears even though it's installed. Also when I attempt to Insert file from Word 2003 in the fax, I get an error message...

Goto "Start" in windows select "RUN" type in "MSCONFIG" press ENTER, Select "STARTUP" tab uncheck the winfax then select apply then OK. Now restart your PC, u should not get this problem now.

I just reinstalled winfax pro 10, it is not in the all programs, but it is in the computer. I am running Windows XP Home edition 5.1.2600 SP3. what do i do?

Go to the program files folder where WinFax is installed, either in Symantec\WinFax or WinFax. Find the file WTNSETUP.EXE.
Run this and go through the setup. It should create the necessary shortcuts and program menu items for you once completed. http://www.getfaxing.com/winfax

Windows Updates will not download...

Version 10.04 will not fix the problem with Windows Updates, and 10.04 will only update from a 10.03 version. Its not recommended unless you're using Fax Sharing and Windows XP.

Its possible you've overwrote some important system files in the process of copying files, but WinFax itself would not cause the problem.

How to create "Message Stores" in Winfax Pro 10

To create the message store folder: 1. Close WinFax and the WinFax Controller. 2. If you are running Windows NT, 2000, or XP, stop the WinFax service. If you don't know how to do this, read the document How to start or stop a service in Windows. 3. Using Windows Explorer, locate and then double-click the Symantec WinFax Pro folder. 4. Click File. 5. Point to New, and then click Folder. 6. Give the new folder a name (My Faxes, for example) and press Enter. 7. Close Windows Explorer.

Winfax pro problem

This is a solution that was suggested for an earlier edition of the Winfax Pro, but there is no reason why it shouldn?t work on this one as well: 1. Close Winfax and any other program that has anything to do with it, delete all the temp files that yo don?t need. 2. Run Scandisk and fix any problems that may come up. 3. Run delfix.exe which is located in the winfax folder in the status files. 4. Run delfix-rebuild and delfix-optimize and check if the problem is solved. If the problem reoccurs there is another possibility- to change the name of the WinFax\data folder and create a new one which you will transfer the address book file, status files etc. from the old folder. Note that there might be some information that wouldn?t go through.
