HI, Check the arm that the door flop connects to. Make sure there is no other causes. The door just snaps on to the arm. Just be gentle and look at configuration .

SOURCE: Ice Dispenser "Flapper" is loose--How does it reattach?

the plastic arms that move the flapper door open and closed are broken. I had this happen to me some months back. You will need to buy a repair kit from your local dealer. Explain what is broken and they can look up their part/kit number. You can't buy just the plastic door. Mine cost about $30 but was worth the price of getting my ice maker dispenser operating again. Very minor mechanics required to open this portion of the mechanism. Mostly some removal of screws and a spring or two. Good luck.

SOURCE: frost buildup inside freezer door at ice dispenser

you are still not getting a seal on that flap. It sounds as if it may be warped. THe reason the frost and ice is building up is due to the flap not sealing there isn't any other reson for your problem. Good luck on your repairs

Kristen,
Thank you for giving more information. I believe you will need to replace the flapper on the ice dispenser. I based this answer on the following: you mentioned when the door is held open ice comes out. Let me know if this helps. As you may know, there are several different things that could cause this issue, but this is the most common one of them. Here is a how to video on this type of repair:

The ice dispenser no longer operates and in the dark of night the light turns on and the dispenser flapper starts flapping wildly on its own adn making a loud grunting noise. Do we need an exorcist

Check your fan next to the compressor if it's running ,also check your evaporator fan if it's running.
If both fans are running and you still have ice built-up then you may have a refrigerant leak

Ice will not dispence thru door.

Without knowing the brand and model # I can offer the most common solution.

On most "pass the ice through the door" models there is a flapper door where the ice dispenses. The spring which holds this door closed when you are not dispensing ice becomes weak allowing the flap to stay open jsut a bit. This open space will create an ice dam in teh dispenser thus not allowing the ice to dispense. The repair is generally made by replacing the flap assembly.

All the best.

Ice dispenser has black ugly gunk from which the ice drops. It is the rubber flapper that opens and shut that is dirty. Question. can the rubber flap be removed to wash?

It;'s possible, but not recommended. The pin that holds the door into place is metal, but the hinges are plastic and have been known to break pretty easily. They do make a replacement kit in case you break the hinges, but that job is usually best left to a professional.
