Printer will not print labels or envelopes????

How do I print labels or envelopes from my printer???

  • Tesla44 Dec 13, 2007

this is not the problem, we have the proper software. I put the envelopes or labels in the appropriate tray, and nothing happens, the red light just flashes.

  • morriganaine Dec 15, 2007

I have a Brother HL2070 and I have the same issue. When I go to print anything other than text (business cards, address labels, etc) I only get a flashing red light. I AM using a template...as a matter of fact, I've tried several different templates and adjusting the paper properties, but the printer still won't print. Any suggestions?

You need word or Avery label software
then you select the type of labels you have in the options and print

Go the "print" dialog and select "settings". Ensure that the paper size, margins and orientation are not set for 8.5x11.  You did not mention the software you are using to print the envelopes/labels so this is the only guess I can give.   I have seen software that made me have to override the settings before.

I can't find an "envelope" option on the printer. All I see are "plain paper" and then photo type paper settings.

Solution --> Phaser 4400 Printer: Printing envelopes

Printing EnvelopesEnvelopes can be printed from the optional envelope feeder, the Multi-Purpose Tray, or Tray 1, 2, or 3.
Guidelines for envelope printing

  • Use only paper envelopes.
  • Do not print on the back of the envelope.
  • Never use envelopes with windows, metal clasps, or exposed gummed surfaces.
  • Keep unused envelopes in their packaging to avoid the effects of moisture and dryness, which can affect print quality and cause wrinkling.
  • Envelopes may wrinkle depending on weight and stiffness of the envelope.

Many applications include a tool for creating an envelope document. For example, Microsoft Word includes an Envelopes and Labels feature in the Tools menu. Be sure to:
  • Select faceup.
  • Clear Clockwise Rotation.
  • Select the feed method with the image centered and the stamp on the envelope to the upper left.

caution_image88x30.gif Never use envelopes with windows, metal clasps, or exposed gummed surfaces; they can damage the printer. Damage caused by using unsupported envelopes might not be covered by your printer's warranty.
note_image33x30.gif Note: The heat from the printing process can melt certain types of envelope glue. If the envelope flap sticks shut after printing the test print, tuck the flaps inside the envelopes when printing the remaining envelopes. Printing envelopes from the envelope feeder
  1. Insert the envelopes into the envelope feeder. For more information, refer to the Trays section of the Trays and Paper Guide on the Interactive Documentation CD-ROM.
    • Place the side to be printed faceup.
    • The top of the envelopes should be toward the left of the printer.

SOURCE: Printer Error When Printing Envelopes

I had problems printing 4 X 6, and found out that I needed to go into the printer mode, and change the tray feed from "main tray" to photo tray.  Try that one.

SOURCE: Can't print from the MP tray?

When you print labels or envelopes you need to select the correct tray from the print menu. (File print or ctrl P) or the printer will think the normal paper tray is being used.

You can force the printer to change the tray after the print has been sent by pressing the continue button on the printer, just make sure that the normal tray has no paper in it.

I'm having trouble addressing an large envelope the printer wants to print from the upper photograph tray and not accept the envelope from the lower tray. I have the MX922 printer.

The upper tray on my 6120 has adjustable guides on either side of the document and can be set from 2" to 8.75" wide. It is not intended just for photos! I use it for ALL envelopes that will fit. I use the MS WORD "Mailings", "Envelopes", "Options", "Envelope Size" menu to tell the printer what size the envelope will be (any size not listed in the standard list can be customized from the CUSTOM option at the bottom of the envelope list). Your word processor should have something similar. Running from the tray should be a straighter run and will actually place less distortion stress on the envelope.

Use a mailing label for anything larger than 8.75". You can download a program from Avery (and probably other label manufacturers) that really makes labels simple to produce. Labels should also be run from the rear tray if possible so they won't wrap around your rollers.
Happy Printing.

When I try to print on a 6x6 envelope on my hp envy 110 printer it tells me it is the wrong size paper. No where is there a setting for a 6x6

Print labels and envelopes

With the HP ENVY 110 series, you can print on a single envelope, a group of envelopes, or label sheets
designed for inkjet printers.

To print a group of addresses on labels or envelopes

1. Print a test page on plain paper first.
2. Place the test page on top of the label sheet or envelope, and hold both up to the light. Check the spacing for
each block of text. Make adjustments as needed.
3. Load the labels or envelopes into the paper tray.
CAUTION: Do not use envelopes with clasps or windows. They can get stuck in the rollers and cause
paper jams.
4. Slide paper-width guides inward against the stack of labels or envelopes until the guides stop.
5. Select the appropriate options.
• On -Paper/Quality- tab select a Plain paper type.
• Click the [Advanced] button, and select the appropriate envelope size from the Paper Size drop down
menu.
6. Click [OK], and then click [Print] or [OK] in the Print dialog box.

If you print from within a program that DOES have that listed (like M$ Word,) then you don't need the limited printer driver to specify the paper size.

My lexmark will print page, business cards, labels, pics, etc. But it will not print envelopes. Looks, sounds, and acts like its printing. But when it spits out the envelope nothing is printed on it.

There must be an issue with the size of the envelope the printer is expecting. If you're using Microsoft Word, check under "Letters and Mailings" and then "Evevolopes and Labels" to check the size you have set the envelope to. Perhaps its also a setting in File and Page Setup or in the printers own settings under Control Panel and Printers. Sorry for not being of more help but if its not jamming or giving an error then its probably just set to the wrong envelope size.
