You have broken last (black) gear in opening/closing mechanism. Common problem. Need new gear or fix missing "tooth".

MY Sony cyber shot DSC W35 camera's shutter is open and close repeatedly and asks for power off and restart but nothing is happening. PL advise

Hi,

Error: TURN THE POWER OFF AND ON AGAIN is displayed on the LCD screen when the Lens Mechanism is stuck or when affected by any malfunction. If turning the power on and off again does not resolve the error message, try doing a power reset and Initialize option.
Performing a manual power reset
Turn off the camera.
Remove the battery pack.
Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
Allow the camera to remain without power for 60 seconds.
Reinsert the battery pack.
Turn on the camera.
To reset the Camera, press the RESET button located inside the Jack cover of the Camera using a sharp pointed object like ball pen or paper clip. This will set the user defined settings back to factory default. The images and videos will not get deleted.

If the issue persists, service may be required.

My camera is showing the error code E:61:00

On Sony equipments this error code seems to be dedicated to focus and lens errors. You may have either some dirt or anything like this inside the lens or focus mechanism, or a broken mechanism (any drop of your camera lastly ?).
If you can open it properly, you should check for "foreign body" inside the mechanism (focus and zoom mechanism, but but code 00 means focus normaly).

DSC-P52 Shutter Problem

I have investigated my problem further and basically the teeth on the black cog which opens the lens cover have broken. This a very small component which attaches to the motor, so when you hear the motor, or if you have had grinding noises, it is the mechanism trying to operate the shutter but cannot beacuse the teath won't engage. If you have this probelm all the turning on and off again wont solve the issue. You might be lucky if only one of the teeth have broken but you are only postponing the inevitable which will happen when you least want it to. I have aChristening at the weekend and only hope I can get this sorted by then.

I will need a new shutter mechanism ( don't know the technical terms) but as yet I have to investigate where I can get one. Any suggestions anyone??

Sony DSC-P52

Take a picture with the camera and download it to your computer. If the picture also shows up black, then this sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager. If so, Sony should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following link for more info:

Camera

Grinding or clicking noises generally means that the lens drive gear has been damaged. This usually happens if the lens gets hit (when the lens is in the out (operate) position), or if the camera is in luggage or a bag and the power button is activated by something else in the bag. If the lens does not have clearance to travel this could cause the gear damage.
These gears can be replaced but you will have to carefully weigh whether these older camera is worth the cost of repair.
Sorry! I hate giving bad news.

DSC P52 cybershot camera

I cannot provide the answer but i think it may have something to do with the shutter mechanism. When you dropped it, something inside the mechanism may have bent or stopped. Don't take the camera apart yourself, take it to a specialist such as an electronics store. I hope this helps. Good Luck!

DSC-P52 image quality and size

I assume you bought this used, do you have a manual? You can download it from Sony directly (for free); http://129.33.22.12/release/DSCP52.pdf
As far as the photo quality goes, this camera was first sold in 2003, and they have come a long way with automatic cameras in the last 5 years. If some time the photo is better than other times, thinks you should check is that the lease doesn’t have any smudges on it. You would not notice by looking at the screen if there was a finger print on the lens. Be careful about going from cool areas to warm ones this will cause the lens to fog-up
You are shooting in the highest resolution available from this camera, there is no RAW mode.

Shutter problem

sand in the mechanism? Or other kind of wearout... If the lens cover does not open completely due to some mechanical problem, the camera will not work (there are switches to detect cover full open and full closed). Probably needs some repair, cleaning or replacing the cover gears
