Can't record out from a digital input

My cable box is connected to my Denon 3803 via fiber optic cable which is labelled "TV" on input side. This is so I can play TV sound through the Denon system periodically. I'd like to record the sound on a show I have on the DVR, but can't get any audio signal from RECOUT: TV source on the Denon. The only RECOUT signal source I can see is the tuner. The Denon is converting the digital sound from the cable box to analog to feed the speakers, but does it not output an analog "line out" as well?

It only passes the signal it see's. Digital for Digital and Analog for Analog. Try running a Standard analog RCA from your Cable box to the receiver then try and record. Hope this helps. If you still have an issue, post a comment and I can help you further.

Denem 787 AVR no HDMI,s how to hook up to TLC65 inch smart TV

Hi Tony Lomanaco, to be able to listen to the sound of your TV on the Denon 787 AVR, you have to use an optical fiber cable from the Digital audio output (Optical Fiber) of your TLC65 TV to any of the two optical fiber inputs, located on the back panel of your Denon 787 AVR
To listen, you select the entry in the Denon and corroborate that corresponds to the Digital option, Optical Fiber and any sound that is heard on the TV, it will also be in the Denon
I hope you can resolve your concern
Regards Franco Dosil

How do I connect my Denon AVR-587 to the digital audio out of the TV?

The digital out is either a coax (TV cable) you screw on and connect to the same type connector on the receiver or it is a small square connector that requires a fiber optic cable designed for this.

The unit's manual will show you.

How do I set my receiver to read TV/CBL Dolby Digital. It is a AVR 789

The Dolby digital signal is outputted only through the Optical or Coaxial socket of the CBL box. you will have to get an optic fiber or coaxial cable depending which cable box you have and connect it to the digital input of the Denon receiver. The Denon's digital input are already assigned at the back. Eg: Optic input might be labeled CD so if you are connecting the CBL box to the optic input remember to select CD on the Denon to hear the cable sound, same goes with the coaxial input.

I just purchased a Sony flat screen tv and need advice on what wires I need to connect my Denon AVR-3300 to it or to the dish cable box? My remote has these options on the remote to listen in...

Your reciever has three digital optical inputs so, what it comes down to is how many thing do you want to hook up and what input/otput do you have on your TV. Best case scenario would be to hook your cable box directly to your TV Via HDMI out, if you have HD, on your cable box to Sat/cable input on your TV. Next best would be using componenet cables for video and digital optical for audio. Last would be RCA(yellow, white and red, from Cable box to TV input. Then, you would connect your TV to receiver via(best) digital optical, or RCA. You can try to patch the video through the reciever using component or RCA to TV/DBS on receiver then out to TV but. alot of times you will lose the video in the transfer and it uses more cables, thus more margiin for error. You would set your TV menu to cable/sat and your reciever to which ever input you choose.

How i conecct my receiver to the dish hdtv

First find out if your Dish HD box has an optical or coaxial digital audio out.
Connect this digital out to to the Denon's optical or coaxial input. On the back of the receiver the digital inputs are labeled as DVD or CD/CBL . Remember to select the front input selector of the Receiver according to what ever input you have connected your HD box.
On all TV channels your 5.1 speakers may not work. You can make them work by choosing some of the DSP functions on the Denon remote. Just press the surround button and select Dolby Pro Logic II movies / music. This will convert 2 channel audio to 5.1.

Hi Martin,

A wiring Schematic is not that you should be looking. What you need is large feeders to understand hot to connect to various ports to give your desired output.

Analog output from digital input for Denon AVR 3803

On the Denon AVR-888 (and I presume others), you have to put the unit in "record" mode. This is covered under "Other Operations and Functions" in the manual. Here are the steps:
1. On the front of the unit, press the zone2/rec select button
2. Turn source select until "recout source" is displayed
3. Turn source select to choose the input source

Hope this helps.

Denon AVR 2800 digital hookup to PS3

If your TV has an HDMI input, hook up the PS3 w/an HDMI cable to the TV. This will give you a high def picture (set up the PS3 to output the max resolution your TV displays). That will take care of the video side.

Next hook up an optical cable from the PS3 to the receiver. In the PS3 menu, you have to change the audio settings to output the sound via the optical cable.

Finally to get sound out of the receiver to the speakers, you have to setup the receiver source input. For example if you setup the PS3 to play thru "VCR" input, then you have to make sure the VCR input is setup to use either optical 1 or optical 2 for sound (whichever one you have the optical cable plugged in from the PS3).
  • I found this solution on a different site... it worked for me. I needed to change the sound settings in my ps3 to optical... then i selected dolby 5.1.... that took care of my sound.
