Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

My nordyne AC unit thats 2 years old suddenly froze up and after thawing, the compresor runns but the thing only blows warm air. COndensor fan is spinning but the air is cool, not hot like it used to be. Filters are clean and are ALWAYS changed. The inside of the unit is spotless, it looks like its never been used. Its always cooled my home down in 3 minutes as its a 55500 BTU unit.

With a amp meter you must verify that the compressor is in fact running. With refrigerant service gauges you must verify a full refrigerant charge.

It's really weird that your AC unit froze up and now only blows warm air. Mine just froze, and I can't get it to thaw, but maybe it will only blow warm air as well. I think I'm going to call air conditioning services to see if there's one that can thaw my unit and keep it from breaking. Maybe a professional can fix your problem too. http://www.classicairandheat.com

You have developed a freon leak or the compressor valves have gone and it is not pumping.

I have a 2002 dodge ram 1500 4.7L engine. Air conditioning only blows cold air when vehicle is moving; warm air when idling... please help. Thanks!

Start by checking the condensor fan to make sure it is running while you have the ac on. If it is not blowing check the condensor fan motor fuse that is located in the totally integrated power module. If the fuse is bad it is most likely that the condensor fan motor is bad and is drawing too much amperage and will need to be replaced. Now I am assuming it has an electric condensor fan motor. Make sure that the condensor is free of debris, a dirty condensor will cause high discharge pressures that will cause poor or insufficient cooling at idle.

Ac unit isn't blowing

It sounds like your freezing up at the coil, which in turn, blocks airflow across coil and only a small amount of air comes out of the vents. This also explains the cold air coming from fan on the outside unit, since the system cannot absorb the heat from the inside of the house through the coil. Your air outside is usually blowing out warm to hot air because thats the heat it rejects out of your system. I would turn the thermostat to "OFF" and turn just the fan setting to "ON" instead of Auto, this thaws the system out faster. Give it time to fully thaw, make sure filters are clean, and check airflow. If airflow is back to normal, your problem is more than likely the charge of refrigerant. If you have to call a technician out, make sure the unit is not frozen at all before they get there, they would not be able to do anything with the system froze. Hope this helps and good luck!

Ac fan on, blowing air, but not cold

Check outside unit if unit and compressor are running feel the large line to see if it is cold. If compressor is running and line is not cold possible charge problems. You may have a capacitor problem outside. they go out quite often. You can change this yourself, Open up outside unit and the cap is the silver bullet with terminals out the top. Bad cap can cause compressor to not operate and also the fan. You need to clean the coil inside or at leat check the coil to see if it is clean. You can clean theis with a toilet brush do not go against the coil bit brush with the fins. You may need to call a service tech but try these options first. russ

If the fan on my A/C Unit isn't working will it cause the a/c to blow room temp air. This unit is around 30yrs old

Yes. I assume you have a centeral AC system and the outside unit's ( condensor) fan does not blow. That fan exchanges the heat from your home with the air outside. It is probably a bad capacitor but may be the motor. You can damage your compressor by operating it without the fan working.

Ac fan not turning on I can ''stick start it'' but which direction?

The condensor fan should be sucking air from the top and blowing it through the coils, probably a counter clockwise direction. The buzzing/humming sound is confusing to me. A humming sound sounds like a motor that can not turn over to start. A starting capacity would be needed. Just because you changed it out last year does not mean it is good. A buzzing sound sounds like a contactor problem. Contactors buzz and after a while, they will fail. In any case, you can "stick start" the condensor fan PROVIDED you are sure the ac compressor is working (this is for a short and temporary use). Also, you may have a high load duty capacitor that assists in the unit running. This will affect your condensor fan operation if it is not good. Unless you know all the components and operations of ac electrical, I would highly recommend calling out a professional.

Blows warm air

you need to disassemble the rear fan shroud and clean the back of the condensor. If the compressor runs and the lines are cold, it is dirty. The rear condensor is the one discharging the hot air. Both sides must be clean and free of dirt/grime

Wall ac unit keeps freezing up inside.

Do not run it on maximum cool and fan on low. Freezes up all the time this way.

With ac running cold, blows warm when truck is stopped

I have a dodge 2007 ram 1500...most likely its an RPM issue. The compressor requires a certain RPM to maintain the required pressurized vapor.
