There is many solutions that work some. The best analogy I have seen is to reduce the wash time as the newer soaps are more efficient at removing dirt which also softens the fabric. Any excess in soap regardless of type in combination with water type will cause an odor, why is the contaminents in the water plus the junk on are clothes to be polite. It builds up under the basket and along the top water line in the tub plus creates a film from the tub through the hoses, pump and house drain. Lint is a product of excess washing and too much soap. Whirlpool stated for there front loaders no more than two TBL of liquid soap which is like 3/8 cup max for the old top loader. SearsTechToo

SOURCE: Bosch WTL5400 Condensation Dryer
We continuously had a similar problem with signals forever coming on after just a few dryer loads. The problem was corrected when we took the back off of the dryer and cleaned the recirculating fan and removed a rubber glove that somehow came through the system and blocked the air flow at the heating element. Low air flow is the same as plugged filter and apparently the computer in our German-made Bosch dryer simply says that. We cleaned the area well, removed all traces of the glove and restored the dryer to operation. We have not had the filter problem since. We routinely clean the heater area at the back of the dryer to maintain our sanity. And we now dry our clothes. Bosch never responded to my query.

l spoke to a repairman and he told me that it is probably a soap build up from only using cold water.....he suggested using sugar soap and hot water and let it soak for a few hours and then let it finish a cycle...and surprise surprise it worked, the lint trap is now working and the smell has gone

SOURCE: Hi I cannot find the lint
This machines use lint stainless steel filters, located on the side of drum, inside the machine. The filters usually do not get replaced, but they need regular cleaning (clip out & rinse in tap water).

SOURCE: lint appears on clothes after
You could be washing your shirts with towels, these are the greatest lint depositors when washing clothes, towels should be washed separately from your washing, to remedy this pour in one cup of White Vinegar into washer and fill with warm or cool water full cycle cold rinse do not add any detergent or fabric softeners as this could counteract the vinegar when washing your clothes next time you can add half cup of White Vinegar to the rinse water or add to your fabric softeners dispenser, vinegar will help soften and ****** static cling, and deodorize it even removes stains
General explanation to clean lint filters
Wet a cloth and squeeze to remove excess water. Open the washing machine. If there is lint along the plastic agitator, wipe it clean. The agitator is the large, plastic piece in the center of a washing machine.
Remove the agitator tube from the washer. Look at the bottom of the washing machine, where the agitator was. There should be a small lint filter. Peel away any lint built up on this, just as you would peel away lint from a dryer lint filter. Look inside the agitator tube for lint, mold or mildew. Remove any lint with a wet paper towel or rag.
Look along the drain hose for any lint. Wipe the lint down with a clean, damp cloth.
Examine the the top and rim of the washing machine. Remove any lint that has built up by wiping it away with a clean, damp cloth.
FOR WHIRLPOOL DUET MODELS
Drain the washer, if you've not done so already. When finished, unplug it.
Locate the lint trap panel under the washer door. Use the screwdriver to unscrew the panel, if necessary. Pull off the bottom panel. Unscrew the white knob to access the trap.
Use your fingers, a damp rag or sponge to remove lint, hair or other foreign objects that might have become lodged in the trap. When finished, tighten the white knob and replace the door. Plug in the machine.
To keep the lint filter clean, before you launder clothes, check pockets and remove any object that could clog the Whirlpool Duet's lint trap. Consider alternate methods of cleaning clothes or items that could shed and, therefore, clog the lint trap.
If you have cleaned the lint filter, but your freshly laundered clothes still smell like mold or mildew, clean the tub. To do this, open the washer door, then use a damp sponge or rag to wipe the tub, particularly any areas where there might be a gap between it and the washing machine's metal casing. Start the empty washer and add 1 cup of white vinegar, instead of detergent. Vinegar loosens lint, mold, mildew or other debris that might be present. The debris washes away during the drain cycle.
If you have cleaned the lint filter, but the washer still does not seem to be operating properly, drain the washing machine, then pull the washer from the wall and unhook the drainage hose. Rinse the inside with a low-pressure stream of water to dislodge any foreign objects or lint. Reattach the hose. If problems still persist, contact a certified repairman.
