SOURCE: How to knock out garbage disposal plug

Turn off the power source to the garbage disposal. Take the drain hose from the dishwasher off the connector going to the disposal (if connected). Insert a flat blade screwdriver in the drain hose fitting and tap a few times with a hammer. The plastic plug will pop off inside the garbage disposal. Reach inside from the top of the disposal to retrieve the plastic plug. Sometimes you have to use a little force to tap the plug out. Hope this helps you.

SOURCE: garbage disposal (water won't drain out of sink standing water)

There should be an overload button somewhere on the bottom of the disposal motor. This is to prevent the motor from trying to run if the chopping blades are jammed, otherwise the motor would burn up.

First, try to move the blades with something like a broom handle. Using a flashlight you should be able to see the blades. there's probably three of them. try to make sure each one can move even a little bit.

Next, with the disposal switch in the off position, find the overload button and push it in, Then turn on the disposal switch and see if it runs. If the overload button trips off again, repeat the above steps until the blades can turn.

Let me know how this goes. Loringh

SOURCE: garbage disposal doesn't drain

Sometimes what happens is that when they install a garbage disposal the pipe coming out of it ends up being lower than the pipe exiting the pea trap thru the wall under the sink. If it is a dual kitchen sink this is very common. Being lower than the exiting pipe causes water to stay in the bottom of the disposal and not just the pea trap. If you have a side by side sink in the kitchen and the water is backing up in the other sink also then more than likely the pea trap has a blockage. It is not common for the straight line from the pea trap going thru the wall to become blocked, but it does sometimes happen. The biggest cause of this is poring hot grease down the drain. It is just about the point that it cools enough, sticks and hardens plugging the drain pipe.
You probably should have a plumber look at it and make sure everything is running downhill under the sink. The only place that water should set in the plumbing is in the pea trap so that odor from the sewer does not come up into the house. Without actually seeing it, it is hard to tell exactly what is happening. The pea trap is easy to clean, put a really big pan under the trap, make sure you have emptied as much water out of the sink as you can, then with a big pair of channel locks unscrew the two nuts that hold the pea trap in place and let the fluid drain from it, then finish unscrewing it from the pipe. You can then clean it out and check the pipe thru the wall for blockage. When reassembling it, screw it all together loosely and then move the pieces around while hand tightening each joint so the they have no pressure on them, then use the channel locks to finish tightening the nuts. Don't over tighten them because they have nylon seals in them that compress to make the seal. Just tight enough to seal and not leak. You should be up and running again unless the plug-up is farther down the wall pipe. Good Luck, RAC

SOURCE: Garbage disposal hum

Hi, Hit the reset again. It sounds like the cutter is lacked up some way. Try using a long wooden spoon ar something simular and see if you ca free up the cutter. If the cutter is free and it still will not work, you will probably need a new disposal. If you are getting no noise after you hit the reset, chack your breakers to make sure there is power to the unit. I hope this helps you. Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Yes, it sounds like you have a bad motor winding, not allowing the motor to actually work. It is time to replace. Hope this helps

Whirlpool dishwasher WDF520PADM5 won't drain. It will run through a cycle, but leaves a few inches of water at the bottom.

If the garbage disposal is clogged, the water from the dishwasher cannot drain. Most of the time the dishwasher drain hose is connected into the garbage disposal. Check to be sure water flows freely into the garbage disposal. You should hear it running into the bottom of the disposal when the dishwasher drains. The line connects to the garbage disposal at the top of the disposal with a hose clamp. If you undo it take the hose off and make sure the punch out inside the disposal tube is all the way punched out and there are no restrictions in their..ie stuck food particles or something else. Unplug the disposal when working on it. Just to be safe.
Hope this helps.

Sink erator

First, unplug the power cord to the "Sink aerator" disposal from under the sink storage area. Next, remove the black rubber strainer from the upper sink area leading down into the disposal. (It simply pulls upward to remove) This will allow you to put your hand down into the disposal area to physically clean out the disposal deposits by hand. Pull out whatever is plugging the disposal and throw the debris in the trash, not back into the disposal. Once everything is removed from inside the disposal, flush it out completely with water from the faucet until it drains freely. Reassemble the black rubber strainer and plug in the disposal once clean. Be sure not to put potatoe peelings and other non-disposable items which can't be ground up easily in the garbage disposal. Keep in mind, just because it says garbage disposal, it doesn't mean all "garbage." Also, always use plenty of water when using the disposal and allow the water to run for a minute or so afterwards to finish washing down the debris in the sink "P" trap drain out through the outer sewer line.

When dishwasher is emptying it is backing into sink

there is probably nothing wrong with Dishwasher itself.
Your Sink drain is stopped up or your Garbage disposal is clogged.
usually, dishwasher drain is connected to the Garbage Disposal, but if the dishwasher empties the water into the Garbage disposal, if its clogged then water will come out of the sink. Same if sink is clogged between sink and sewer.

If you fill up your sink and then water drains away, then you know your sink itself is not the problem. If its only the Garbage disposal side that does not drain, its the garbage disposal that is clogged.

Ok my ace 2000 disposal hums. blades move freely when i put my hand inside. the 1/4" allen wrench doesn't fit in the opening at the bottom. my sink fills with water but eventually drains, so I...

Sounds like the starter winding is bad.
The cutter disc is welded directly to motor shaft. So is the allen wrench fitting.
So if disc rotates freely, then you should be able to feel the allan wrench fitting rotate too.
Use broomstick instead of hand down disposal.
If motor hums and cutter disc does not spin, but cutter disc can be moved freely, then disposal needs to be replaced.
I wish they made repairable motors so that metal and copper doesn't get thrown into the scrap recycle metal bin.

Sink only drains when garbage disposal is run. Have cleaned trap, snaked pipe and no clogs still wont drain unless disposaln is tturned on.

Sounds like a clog inside disposal.
Water should run freely through disposal.
Remove both nuts on p-trap and trap falls loose.
Put bucket under tubular drain from disposal.
Turn water on to see if water runs out of disposal.
You might need a de-greaser, drain cleaner or CLR

Hi,
If you pull the U trap out and run water through the Disposal and it comes out of the pipe, then there is nothing wrong with the drainage through the disposal. It's not clogged. If it isn't running, there is a small red button on the bottom that is a circuit breaker. If the button is sticking out, push it and it will reset the breaker. Every thing else with the Disposal you did perfectly.

It appears to me as though there is a clog after the Trap. There are several ways to unclog it.
A small snake will do normally, unless the clog is far down the drain system, such as between the house and the sewage or septic system. I have used another device with a hose that is a rubber bulb shaped device that attaches to a garden hose at one end and has a **** at the other end. When you put it into a drain pipe and turn on the water, it inflates and anchors itself against the walls of the pipe that is clogged. Then it forces water down the pipe to remove the obstruction.
Here is a photo. You can find these at places like Harbor Freight, Home Depot, etc.
Hope this helps. Happy New Year, Mark

The top grinder is supposed to spin around freely.

When something gets stuck:
Turn off switch.
Stick a wood broom handle down into disposal.
Wedge broom handle against sink opening and push grinder disk until it spins freely.

If you get stuff in the disposal like broken glass:
Stick vacuum hose in and remove the glass or bones, or whatever.
Most disposals will chew up chicken bones.
But heavier bones will not go down without considerable racket.

If this connects into a tee between the sinks, usually if the tee is in the middle of sinks, then often there is a divider in the tee to keep water from backing up the other drain. Remove the tee and inspect to be sure it isn't cloggged. Also put a bucket under the outlet. Try running it this way, if you get good flow you know the disposal is working
