SOURCE: Im hooking up netgear universal

No, it just has to be added into your network.

Try using 192.168.1.250

It would seem that they have set up a webpage that is meant to redirect you back to that IP address, their silly way of trying to look out for people who are too stupid to type in a set of numbers I guess.

These are a huge pain and I would recommend returning it and buying a Devolo dLan Wireless extender since they can self-configure. If you insist on using the device you have, try these steps:

1. Reset Primary Router to have NO SECURITY (you should be automatically disconnected). Don\'t just reset to factory defaults! If your ISP requires specific router configuration to connect, resetting would erase all of those settings. Simply open the router config site and remove Wireless Security. The best way to know is to Google your Router and Model for configuration instructions.

2. Reset Extender to Factory Defaults.

3. Plug Extender in (if not already done)

4. Connect the PC to the ROUTER (which should have NO security at this time)

5. Confirm that you have connection to the Internet, as well as any network devices.

6. If #5 failed;
6.a. Make sure the old wireless connection (manage connections) has been deleted.
6.b. Close all Network Configuration windows (don\'t know if this matters, but sometimes the refreshed list refused to update with new config settings without this step).
6.b. Scan for available wireless connections.
6.c. Keep doing 6.a and 6.b until the correct wireless connection is shown. In my case, I kept getting "Cielo Secured" instead of "Cielo Unsecured" (or vice versa).
6.d. When the list shows the correct connection and security setting, select it to connect to the router.
6.e. Return to Step #5

7. Now you\'re back to essentially where you were to start, sans security. Close all Internet Explorer pages.

8. Open Wireless Connections again, and disconnect from the Primary Router, and connect to the Extender. If your wireless connection list is showing conflicting Extender and Security information, follow Step #6 until it\'s correct.

9. Open Internet Explorer. You should automatically be thrown into the Extenders Auto Configuration wizard. Follow the Wizard instructions until it\'s finished. When it shows the security settings, make sure that it\'s set to NONE.

10. Once the wizard is done, and you\'ve clicked on the "finished connecting" button in the Extender config, make sure you save the Bookmark as suggested - you\'ll need that later when you add security. Now, check your wireless status.

Hopefully it will show "Internet", not the pesky "Limited Connectivity". Open the Network & Sharing screen to verify there is no dreaded Red "X" between your Extender and the Internet. It may take a few minutes for the Internet status to update.

11. If Step #10 failed, start from Step #1 again, making sure that each device has been configured with NO SECURITY.

12. If Step #10 was successful, take a moment to step back and perform a 2 or 3 minute Chicken Dance in honor of the Computer Gods. .... Or, maybe not. wink.gif If nothing else, at this point you\'ve proven the Extender will work, even if unsecured.

13. Now, go through Steps 4 through 12. This time, though, configure the Router to the security level you wish.

14. Since we\'ve already configured the Extender once, use the Bookmark saved in Step #10 to re-open the Extender configuration site. Click on "Exit" when it opens if it wants to run the Wizard again. It may also guide you through updating the firmware if that\'s necessary. Let that finish before continuing.

15. MANUALLY configure the Extender by first selecting "Connect to Existing Network". If all things are set correctly, it will eventually ask you for the security key for your Router. Enter and continue.

16. This time, when it\'s done, it should have updated the configuration for BOTH devices using the Network Key you just entered. You should see an updated Extender security setting summary screen. Re-connect to the Extender (wait for the status to show Connected, then click on the button at the bottom. The Extender Status screen should be displayed.

17. Open the Network and Sharing screen to confirm there is still no Red "X" between your network and the Internet.

18. If Step #17 was successful, open Internet Explorer and confirm you can access the web. Yippee!!

19. If Step #17 failed, then the auto-config screwed up again. Click on "Wireless Settings", and manually configure the Extender to match what you set on the Router. Return to Step #17 to confirm that resolved the issue.

Fair warning, this will take a long time to accomplish. Netgear in my opinion is the worst brand on the market for wireless!
