HP Laserjet 5000 moved and now says offline

HP Laserjet 5000 on a network. Was working fine, had to move it. Now it seems OK but shows status of Offline on computer (Printer says Ready). I have tried the data jacks and they are live and computers connected to same jacks connect. Have also tried a different cable. Nothing was changed except the location in the same room and network(and it was off for a few days while we moved).

Please verify the workstation (or server) is not set to "use printer offline", I also suggest trying to ping the ip address of the printer or trying to access the webinterface of the printer by going to printers ip address in a web browser.

Please let me know if this fixes your problem or if I can be of further assistance. Thank you.

Please run the Self-Test on the printer. You will get a printout and look for the following items:

IP Address: let's verify you and the printer are using the same address.

TX Packets/RX Packets (or similar): let's see if the printer is sending and receiving packets. Neither of these values should be 0.
If you've still not determined the problem, you'll need to verify the cabling - get a long cable and plug the printer into a jack where there is a functional workstation or plug in a functional workstation to the jack where the printer is located. Verify the connection at the switch - try a different port.

Please keep me posted on your progress.

My printer was working fine until having to reboot the wireless modem. Now says "Printer Offline'' and will not print.

I would try restarting the printer, as it is possible that the network address the printer has is now different than the modem

HP Laserjet 5000 offline

If this is a network printer then it's picked up a different IP address than the computer saw last time.

You can get the HP to print it's settings for you via the menus system on the printer. When you have the IP address go to your PC and make the driver use that address.

Print out the network Configuration page. On the control panel press the check mark. Use the < or > to get to reports. Press the Check mark. Use the < or > to select network config. Press the Check again. Look at the report. Make sure it says the network is ready. If not look for the green light in the back of the printer, where the network cable plugs in. If it isn't lit, you could have a bad formatter, a bad cable, a bad network....

My printer shows ''User intervension required'' other than ''Ready''

The issue may be resolved by clearing the pause printing in the printer driver or by setting up a parallel connection with the computer. Clear pause printing
  1. From the Windows Desktop, select Start , Settings , and Printers .
  2. Right-click the HP LaserJet printer icon that is being used.
  3. Select the Work Offline or Pause Printing option (if enabled) to remove the check.
  4. Print the document again.
Establish parallel connection
  1. Turn off the printer or remove the printer from the network.
  2. Connect the printer to the PC using a parallel cable.
  3. Power on the printer.
  4. Print the document again. NOTE: If the User Intervention Required message reappears, disable or remove any HP LaserJet software utilities loaded on the system (for example, Status Window, HP Toolbox, etc.). Prove printer functionality and troubleshoot communications; try printing again.
Uninstall and reinstall the driver After performing a cold reset on a product installed with USB, a higher DOT4_00x port is created, causing the printer to hang while printing. NOTE: This is required with products installed on a USB port only.
  1. Uninstall the USB printer driver.
  2. Remove the HP folder and AIO folder from the hard drive.
  3. Reinstall the USB printer driver.
CAUSE: This error can occur if when using a network or printing from a laptop. When the print job goes into a pending status, the printer is either in Work Offline or Pause Printing mode. Hope this helps. Please rate my response.
Thanks.
Have a good day.

Printer status offline

I just ran into the same problem. The computers on the network that were running XP were showing the printer as "Ready", but all of the computers running Vista were showing the printer as "Offline".

After trying a number of solutions that I found on other message boards, I accidentally discovered that the problem was an IP address conflict. It seems that the server changed the address on the printer, which didn't bother the XP machines but brought the Vista machines to their knees.

Press and hold the blue button (HP called it the "Go" button) for 5 seconds, which will print a configuration report. In the TCP/IP section you will see the IP address for the printer. Next, open the Printers window, right-click on the P2015 and click Properties. Click the Ports tab. Find the port that is checked and click the "Configure Port..." button. If the "Printer Name or IP Address" field differs from the IP address on the configuration report, change it to the one on the report. It took a few seconds after hitting OK for the computer and prrinter to link up again, but that solved the problem for me.
