Even saying ICOM would help people to help you. That radio requires software and a programming cable adapter. It is new enough to do Narrow band. Best bet is to find an ICOM dealer to program it for you. That way, it will be on legal frequencies. Your unit is VHF, so it cannot talk to GMRS over the counter radios. It is a decent radio, we sold them and the battery life was good. Ask more if you want to know more.

firstly you will need to access the menu if you cannot these may be programmed using the proper software ,you will be able to unlock it then or give it to someone that can program it for you

I use the ICOM OPC-478 cable along with the ICOM F3GS software. In order to use the OPC-478 cable with WINDOWS 7, it will be necessary to go to the site

www.icomamerica.com

choose support (not option 1) and look for the updated driver package for WINDOWS 7. When that has been downloaded and installed, it will be necessary to go into that part of the control device manager and change the port to "COM2".

I am now able to program both my IC-F3GS and the IC-F4GS.

My icom ic-f3gt turns off and straight back on again. Sometimes this happens every 30 mins another time it may do it after 5 mins then another time it does not do it at all. Any ideas?

Using the ICOM F3GS program, go to COMMON 1 and set the INACTIVE TIMER to something other than what it currently is.

Might work...

I recently bougth 3 Icom IC-F3gs radios, second hand. They all work fine, but i cant access any of the functions on the radio. It is like they are locked somehow. Can somebody help me..... Thanks Wtr
