Question about Toro Garden

1 Answer

Toro CCR 2450 snowblower won't start.

I verified I have a spark, put fresh gas/oil mixture, I removed and cleaned the carb and replaced the carb gasket while I was at it. The primer is pushing gas into the carb. The engine just will not start. Do you have any ideas?

Try a short burst of starter fluid into the carburetor and promptly pull starter. If it runs for a couple seconds and quits then the carburetor is not delivering fuel.

If it doesnt run on starter fluid then either flooded, insufficient spark, or poor compression / crankcase leak.

Testimonial: "Thanks for the advice. I will try the starter fluid first. Like l mentioned, I unhooked the spark plug and can see a faint spark when I pull the cord. I am not sure how I would check for an insufficient spark like you mention. Also I don’t know how to test for low compression."

SOURCE: 6hp toro snowblower. cleaned carb, reinstalled all

The diaphram in the carb is not working or there is an air leak somewhere in the intake or the float may not be working or the needle inside the carb may not be working or it's sticking.

No if your belt is shredding there is something rubbing on the belt. Check the idler/tightner pulley see if it spins freely. Check make sure nothing but the pulleys are touching the belt when it is engaged.

SOURCE: Hello, I have a Toro snowblower Model ccr 2450.

Remove the starter, then check the teeth, if the teeth
are ok, then the throwout Bering is bad, this is the part than pushes out the teeth so it contacts the
flywheel. The parts you need, teeth ,spring, throwout,
show as a kit, but you must buy them from a toro dealer, You need to have your serial #, because the parts are listed by different serial #'s. Now most times you would have to buy the whole starter, but it looks like you can get the kit. If the teeth are bad then the throwout is ok, but you still need the kit to fix your problem.

SOURCE: Toro CCR 2450, Common starting problems? Fresh

Next step would be to check the ignition module(coil),I have a lawnmower that uses the same 2 cycle engine. Check coil for spark by removing the spark plug from the block then connect the insulator side of the sparkplug back to the coil then ground the plug by touching the threaded side to the block away from the sparkplug hole while turning the engine over. Should see a spark, if not you'll need a new coil, not hard to replace. calls for Briggs & Stratton #80-1268 you can also use a Toro/Lawnboy coil #99-2911 or #99-2916 or #684049.

I put a mixture of oil gas in my 621 R/621 toro snowblower?

Hi Jerome:
Shouldn't be too bad.
You could disconnect the fuel line at the carb and drain the tank.
Drain and flush the carb. Reconnect the fuel line and fill with fresh gas.
If it won't start, pull the spark plug and clean/dry it with a propane torch, or replace it.
Odds are it will be fine.
Cheers.

Won stay running

Check carburetor & air filter. Clean off all dirt and clean air filter. check age of gas. Cannot be more than 30 days old. Make sure to use fresh gas w/synthetic 2-cycle oil @ 40:1 ratio (1 gal.) Gas to 3.2 oz. Oil). Do not use old or stale oil/gas mixture. Before putting in fresh fuel, press the primer several times. A small amount of gas might show up in the fuel tank. Remove fuel. With carburetor cleaner, spray carburetor. Put in small amount of fresh fuel. Just enough to cover the fuel filter. Then press primer with fuel cap off, and watch to see if fuel is flowing smoothly. If not or if plastic primer bubble does not come back to original shape after pressing, then you have to take carburetor apart and clean or get new carburetor.

Oil in the gas tank

Not a big deal. Im assuming this is a 4-stroke push mower and not a leaf blower.
Remove the air box cover, air filter, and air box back plate. Careful there is a gasket on the back of the backplate that if damaged the primer bulb wont work, part # 272653. Remove the fuel line from the carb and drain the tank. Using a 1/2 inch wrench remove the bowl nut from the float bowl on the carb, hold the bowl to the carb as to not break the gasket seal, drain the bowl and replace the bowl nut. If you tried to run the unit and oil is in the cylinder remove the spark plug ( clean the spark plug) and spray some carb cleaner in the hole and pull the starter rope several times to purge the cylinder. Reinstall the spark plug, reattatch the fuel line, install the air box back plate ( leave the air filter and cover off for now), add fresh fuel.
Take unit outside and start, you may need to give it a shot of carb cleaner in the throat of the carb to help it start. It may smoke, it may blow oil out the muffler. Let it run until it quits smoking ( usually around 5 minutes) . Shut it off and complete assembly. It should be fine.

Forgot to drain the gas last fall and found it had small amount of water in the tank. Drained it out and cleaned the fuel filter, cleaned the carb out and now it starts, but runs only if the choke is on.

I would recommend replacing the fuel filter and spark plug. If this is a 2-cycle engine be sure you are using fresh gas with the proper oil mixture. If your engine has a fuel primer bulb be sure to push it several times until you feel resistance before starting and make sure there are no fuel leaks. Failing that you may need to adjust the carb fuel mixture screws after the engine runs long enough to warm up (1-2 minutes). Check your owners manual for other troubleshooting procedures. Good luck.

try to keep it running on wd-40 after you get it started and sometimes it will clean-out the carbs varnish blockage,if not remove and clean or replace the carb

MTD Yard Machine 22'', 4.5HP, 190cc push lawn mower won't start

The primer bulb might be damaged, or the carburator diaphram could have been damaged if carburater cleaner was used.
