Lets see if the Lenovo computers are alike, since I have a T60 version...
Lets start by going to the: -> START button click on the Control Panel -> click on MOUSE -> click on ULTRANAV tab -> there will be a check mark to Enable the Touch Pad Check off the Touch Pad and click on APPLY to save and OK to back out.
Voila, your Touch pad should be working then.
Good Luck.

Internal tochpad wont work

You probably have the touchpad turned off. Some models will have a button at the top of the touchpad in the middle that toggles it on or off.

Some models you can tap twice in the upper left hand corner of the touchpad to toggle it on or off.

I've seen some models where the touchpad is toggled by keystrokes. You had to Press and Hold the ALT or FN function key then hit the key that toggles the touchpad. The correct key to hit had the icon of a finger pointing at a touchpad.

Click Start/Control Panel and check the Mouse or touchpad drivers to make sure the settings are ok. I would just set everything back to Default.

Maybe you need to reinstall the touchpad drivers if any of the above does not solve it.
Get onlineand got to www.google.com In the google search box type: "AcerSupport" (without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support). Look for downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operatingsystem when requested. Download and install the Touchpad drivers.

Touchpad & lower 'mouse' buttons do not work

There is a button on the laptop which re-enables the touchpad. It's either next to the touchpad, or you must hold down the Fn button and press one of the function keys at the top.

Dell inspiron tochpad only works by holding down key on keyboard

It is likey the connection for the touchpad has come loose. As this connector is under the keyboard it would make sense that putting pressure on the keyboard causes it to work. If you are comfortable with removing a few screws, refer to the service manual on Dell's website on how to remove the keyboard. You will then see a ribbon cable connected to a plastic mechanism that secures the cable to the connection on the motherboard. Simply slide the top of the plastic mechanism forward or back to release tension on the ribbon cable, make sure the cable is straight and all the way forward, then slide the mechanism back into place and you should be okay. If you are not comfortable with removing anything, any computer repair shop should be able to do this for you relatively quickly.

The keyboard does not work and the mouse

Pressing the Fn key with the F7 key turn the touchpad on and off.

I was having the same issue with my tochpad and spent 4 hours taking apart and putting back together my 5100.

My touchpad now works like normal...

Hope this helps.
