Coolpix S3000 has a self timer. There are two time values you can set it, 10 seconds and 2 seconds. It is explained on page 32 of the user manual. If you dont have a user manual, download it free from : http://www.nikonusa.com/pdf/manuals/noprint/S3000_ENnoprint.pdf
Hi. On the selector dial press the left arrow next to the clock icon. This brings up the timer selector. Press the down arrow to select on and then select. This sets the timer. Now position your camera and press the shutter button. There is a 10 second delay between pressing the shutter button and the picture being taken. If you want to take another picture with the timer, you have to reset it.
Press left on the multiselector (marked with a one-handed clock). Once the self-timer has been selected, you start it by pressing the shutter release button.
From the menu of the camera, you need to change and select the settings for the pictures. Some cameras have this option where it will take one or more picture automatically. Also check that the self timer is off.
The blinking red timer means that the date isn't set on your camera. Go to the set up screen and set the date. I'm not sure why you wouldn't be able to take pictures, though...
