I purchased a 500GB Seagate external desktop drive about 2 months ago to use it with my mac. I had about half of the capacity used, and today noticed that at least 40GB of avi files is missing. They were in subfolders in a directory that just doesn't show them in the finder, although there are other files in the directory that show. I tried searching for them but came up with nothing. Even if they were moved to trash accidentally somehow I'm very certain I have not emptied it in weeks. Is there anything I can do to get the missing files back ? I think the green light in the drive was blinking repeatedly when I first discovered the problem, but now it blinks just occasionally while most of the time staying stable.

The easiest option is to fragment your hard drive and try to add it on a different computer to check if it has any errors incurring on it. run disk check utility. if that does not work too, better consult the outlet you bought it from and ask for a warantee if it still has.

get back to me if that did not work and we could try to find other alternatives.

thank you

Seagate Expansion 1TB external Desktop Hard Drive (9sf2A4-500) not detected.

Claire,

Have you tried connecting the drive to another computer using Windows 7 or later. You could try chkdisk /f at a command prompt or get the testdisk app to identify deeper issues with the drive.

Suddenly, my 500GB Seagate external hard drive couldn't mount on my iMac. It was working fine till yesterday. I connected them to the Mac USD port, and the light in the seagate is blinking... Any

I can only comment generically:

I would try to uninstall the drive on the OS. Then re-start the computer. After the re-start, connect the drive and see if the drive re-installs itself.

If the error persists, then the drive is indicating failure. To absolutely verify if it has failed, take the drive to a store where there are MAC computers and try the drive on one of their computers to see if it works.

A continuous flashing LED on most devices where the LED does not normally continuously flash is an indication of a failure of the device. Some devices will flash an error code when designed to do so, and if possible.

I have purchased a Seagate free agent Goflex 500gb I want to run it with my Mac Pro note book it dose not work

For a MAC to use an external Hard drive, the hard drive has to be formatted FAT32 file system. That is the only file system MAC sees.

I have just purchased a Seagate 500GB Desktop hard drive

There is software preloaded on the disk. If you have AutoPlay turned off in your system, it won't start automatically when you connect the drive. Just go to MyComputer and open the drive and you will find a setup file there to install the backup software (I think it's called Launch.exe).

G4 Power Mac not seeing the external drive

Yup, I'm afraid the only known solution is to return to an earlier version of the opertating system. I suspect that if you recall - the item disappeared after a security update. Shame eh! Robin
