SOURCE: remote not talking to console
If your remote is giving out and not allowing you to continue , then yes it could be bad..
But, its hard to tell since you just got the system and the new remote is already bad?
If its not staying in sync, then I would try a different remote before thinking any repair options

I had same problem. Take all batteries out of both units. Put the batteries in the remote sensor FIRST. Then put batteries in the main unit. Within five minutes, they will link up. Problem solved!

The process is simple but too lengthy to post here. Goto homelink.com They make the system and have very complete instructions you can download. PLEASE NOTE: MOST but not ALL Brands / models of opener will work with this system. Note: when you change the battery you need to reprogram the remote.

Open the front of the Wii, you should see a orange or reddish button, push it then push the sync button on the monitor. It should hook right up.

Double check the batteries to make sure they are installed correctly. If one of the batteries in the outdoor sending unit is in backwards, it will not send the outdoor data. On the indoor unit, there is typically one battery that is used for receiving the signal from the outdoor unit. If all of the batteries are in correctly but that one, you will see the display and the indoor temperature information, but the outdoor information will not be displayed.
