Disassemble Rear Projection TV

Dear Top Experts:

I received a gift of a Philips 60 inch rear projection HD tv (model 60PP9202). Of course, when I attempted to move the tv to my basement media room, it would not fit down the stairs. I saw somebody had a similar problem which went unanswered. Is it possible to separate the base from the screen portion and move the pieces independantly? Thanks in advance for your help

Well the short answer is : Check the sides of the set see if there is a crack in the middle where you could separate them
Long answer: i would not recommend it even if it does, the screens are sensitive and could get dust inside the screen.
Never taken one apart that far. i suspect most tech don't because of the problems aligning and dust ect.. trying to get it back together.

More than likely the problem is the CRT fluid and not the tube. Do a few google or fixya searches on CRT fluid and to get an idea of what it looks like when it gets cloudy.
