I am trying to find out what the beep sequence is for a Compaq motherboard (Pentium 3 187498-001)
I am getting one short beep and 2 longer ones. (powers on but immediately beeps and nothing displayed on screen)
I have about 384 ram added and using a 60g hd, all of which gives me no errors in another pentium 3 that I tested them on.
Any help is appreciated!
Actually some RAMs don't work on some motherboards especially if the frequency is not supported. You might also try to refresh all connections on your motherboard and reset the CMOS / BIOS (by remove the battery) before installing the RAM. Hope this will help.
Here's the compaq beep codes

As you can see your codes are not listed so I would presume you have the Award BIOS and your problem comes under "Other beep conditions" = memory errors.

Turn the computer off.
Remove all the RAM sticks.
Turn the computer on -- what "beep" code?
Turn the computer off.
Insert ONE RAM stick into the 'DIMM1' slot.
(Look closely at the labels on the motherboard,
to determine which of the RAM-slots is 'DIMM1'.)

Turn the computer off.
Remove the RAM, and insert one "other" stick into DIMM1.

Is the RAM labelled PC100 or PC133 or DDR or DDR266 or DDR333 or DDR400?

Disconnect all devices from the power supply EXCEPT the motherboard
Remove any extra cards including video etc.(plug monitor into the onboard)
If you hear any beeps these can indictate where the fault is.
either of these sites below will help you further with that

Power up the pc and see if the fans are working.
If not then double check the power connections to the board.
If you still have no fans it is time to suspect the power supply as the probable cause.
If the fans worked then you should have gotten a display which told you there was an error and offering you a chance to go into the BIOS. ignore it and shut down the PC.
Now connect one drive only and boot again.
Repeat that until you identify the component that is giving you a problem.
Once you find the problem then remove or disconnect and carry on with the rest to see if another component might also cause a problem
If there is only one problem device then you may want to investigate that device further, Unless you don't mind replacing it
