How do I change drive belt on my toro 22187 - Garden

what belt did you change? i assume the drive belt. if it is not exactly the right size it wont work. if it is not routed correctly it wont work. it may have slipped off of a pulley.

Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Raise and safely support the vehicle.
Remove the drive belt shield at the right wheel well.
Remove the drive belt.
Remove the drive belt tensioner mounting bolt.
Remove the drive belt tensioner.

check the torson spring

Check the belt tension to see you have the correct belt.

Take the old belt off and take it with you to a lawn mower shop or even a farm supply place that sells belts and they should mathch you up with the right belt.

HI, I have a Cub Cadet 50" cut I had a similar problem and I had to change the spring on the idler pulley it had lost tension and replacing it solved my problem. Not familiar with your mower but if it has the same principles as mine you might want to try that.

First thing you need to do remove spark plug wire.. Then I would go to the website for Toro have the serial number ready there you will see the full picture of the way it is then go from there that's the best way with out seeing it. Good luck

The Toro 20016 mower is a front wheel drive mower and fairly simple to change the belt on. Start by disconnecting the spark plug to prevent start ups while working on the machine.

Remove the blade and adapter. The adapter includes the pulley for the belt.
two screws under the mower, with 3/8 heads hold the black cover over the belt. remove the cover and now you will see the transmission
The transmission, depending on the year of your machine will have a guard holding the belt on. Bend or remove the guard to remove the belt. Install you belt in reverse order.

Click on the one you have and it will show you how to accomplish this task. Be sure to either tighten the belt so it does not fall off again, or if it is bad, replace the belt. Please follow all safety instructions.

For removing/replacing the deck belt, the general method is:

1. turn off engine, remove key and set parking brake
2. disengage blade by putting blade engage lever into off (disengaged) position
3. lower the cutting deck to the lowest position (closest to the ground)
4. relieve the belt tension (depending on the model, use a 3/8 inch ratchet set to tighten in the square hole of the idler bracket)
5. remove and replace the belt

NOTE: it's not necessary to completely remove the cutting deck.
