A couple months ago I installed the Cruzer Micro USB Flash Drive for its ReadyBoost feature (intended to speed up my computer). I think my computer did run faster when I first got the Cruzer. But then I needed the USB port for connecting other hardware, so I removed the Cruzer. I just purchased a USB 4-port hub so I'd have all the USB ports I need. I plugged the Cruzer back in but it doesn't seem to be working. How can I get it to work again?
P.S. I don't know I put the Cruzer back in the same port I put it in initially, if that even matters, but it is plugged directly into the computer and not into the USB hub. The other devices I have connected are an HP printer/scanner, a Seagate external harddrive, a Targus chill mat, and a wireless mouse. The HP printer, Targus chill mat, and the Seagate harddrive are connected through the USB hub. Thanks for any help you can give me.
PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF ITEM 3
I devised these simple steps that tend to remedy quite a few issues with most USB portable / external hard drives and OTHER devices (though not always)
A few things to check but assumes USB and Windows for other interfaces / operating systems (mac/ Linux) similar steps may be adapted to suit.
1. Ensure it is connected directly to the computer to a USB 2.0 port not a USB 1.0 port as this can have effects on performance and reliability
2. Use only the cables that came with it NOT one that fits that may have been lying around or is longer. Not all USB cables are equal even though they should be)
3. Do not connect through an external USB HUB unless that hub is USB 2.0 AND has its own power supply.
4. Use ONLY the power supply that came with it if it has an external power supply Don’t use any other unless you know it has both the same voltage and current rating e.g. 12V 500mA anything rated below that would not work properly.
5. Always use the same port for connecting your devices. Some devices do not like being switched about. If switched they may want to install software / drivers again. This can be especially true if you move a HUB to another port
If you checked and fixed anything there and still have issues then check your hardware from CONTROL PANEL / SYSTEM / HARDWARE.
Any exclamation marks by hardware need fixing before you investigate any further
USB flash drives can fail for no apparent reason.
Sandisk Cruzers are especially bad for this.
USB hard drives should be treated with extreme care.
This is a real hard drive ! and knocks and bumps can quite literally kill them.
It is possible to remove drives from the enclosures in most cases and connect directly inside a PC to fully check it.
Note that if you hear a drive clicking or pinging this could be the worst thing you would hear.
Known as "The Click Of Death"
If none of the above steps help look at updating the drivers from the manufacturers web site in the support section.
Testimonial: "Thanks. Saw this posting earlier & checked & corrected the issues you described, as much as I could. Still having problems. "
Try with as many devices as possible disconnected eg printer cooling mat etc.
If that helps its down to a voltage problem on your USB ports.
Only way round that would be to use a properly powered HUB with its own supply.
Had a couple of laptops through that the USB parts did not work and turned out they had been hooking so much into them that it had taken out the USB ports alltogether. New motherboard required to fix two of them which is not cheap with laptops.
Even coolers where possible should have an independant power supply.

Some times the extend has lower power then usual, to make it work buy a new extend (one better), or put it were it was and put other thigs in the extend. i hope that i help you
click start control panel administrative tools computer management device manager scroll down universal serial bus controllers you could see a yellow question / exclamation mark? ! or a red X
you will need to update/reinstall drivers
right click to reinstall drivers
if you can see your usb drive but its not working
ports (com&lpt) right click update driver if this fails to fix the problem
check the USB leads that attach to the motherboard usually red white green black make sure they are securely seated and have no dust build up on them dust will cause static and a lot of unforeseen problems to a computer and its parts
not sure if erased software on this drive or the drive itself
if you need more help with this post a reply
hope this helps you
