HP director has been uninstalled from my system, but now I cannot use my printer to scan a document. HP doesn't offer a driver to reinstall this software and the CD which came with my printer will not load due to my computer recognizing a newer version of the software which I know is no longer on my system.

How are you scanning it ? From HP Solutions Center or HP Director ?

Try this step.

Open HP Director or HP Solution Center.

Under Settings you will find Pictures/Document Scan
Below you will find option like File Type : Choose JPEG or PDF

Save it.

IF this does not work, the best option for you is to uninstall HP Photosmart Essentials from Add/Remove programs ( or Control panel - Programs and Features )

But however, by default the pictures/documents are still saved in MY Documents - My Scans folder even if the Photosmart essential pop-up after you scan

You should uninstall the software and reinstall it fresh. You should also download the newest version available on HPs website instead of the one on the CD that came with your machine to ensure that you are using the newest version.

Try uninstalling the software and the driver and then reinstall them from the CD given when you purchased this item. Good luck.

DONOT PLUG THE USB CABLE UNLESS & UNTILL PROMPTED
PLUG USB WHEN ASKED
FINISH INSTALLING PRINTER
NOW YOU CAN FIND THE SCANNER

simply installoffice 2003 and there will be microsoft office tools select microsoft office document scanning select scan new document.....first of all u have to install printer drivers my dear friend

You will have to download the latest driver from Hp website, after uninstall the completly printer driver form "program and features" or add/remove programs" and reinstall the complete driver.

If you have updated to Internet Explorer 7 or 8, the HP Director program won't work correctly without the update patch from HP Support. Go to HP Support, put in the model number of the device and search for drivers. Look for a special driver or patch for Internet Explorer and download and install. This will allow the HP director to run from the desktop. Once it is started you should restart your printer and make sure it is connected with a USB, or if it is connected directly to the router for your home network, you should uninstall the printer, then reinstall the printer and see if the computer sees it this time with the new driver on the hard drive. Once it installs, see if the HP Director can be started from the desktop and choose scan document, It will ask what you want to scan and where do you want to scan it to. Click document or picture...I have mine set up to scan text documents as PDF's and Pictures as JPGs. I then set it to "Save to file" when the scanning is done, whether it is one file or many, the director will then ask what folder you want to save the files to. That's all there is to it. Uninstall all of the all-in-one software. Go to www.hp.com and search for your model and download (free) the latest software and reinstall.

What I did to "fix" it was to completely uninstall the printer and reinstall it as if for the first time. Then I had to download new drivers for it. I found that out by checking for updates. The Director icon on my desktop till doesn't seem to do anything but I can now scan by hitting the scan button on the printer. It doesn't work like it used to but I'm just adjusting to the new paths I have to take.

uninstall and remove all the icons from your PC first than reinstall the driver from CD and run complete setup it works.
