Seems like you have to take it back to where you bought it friend. I doubt you will get any joy from the Manufacturer.
If in UK, then you are AUTOMATICALLY covered by Consumer Law for 1 Year. So take it to the retailer for a refund.

Be very careful. Mine started making a knocking sound and a few minutes later flames came out of the side of it. Thank God I was home and put the fire out. Light is only 5 months old. try to put needle to small hole on front face of drive, but I recommend you to take warranty and get new drive, sometimes you buy faulty new things, that is normal, when almost every hardware is made in China...

That’s a tricky one, because legally you have no rights, none of the UK laws apply as the product was purchased abroad.
Similar issue with me when I purchased a Mio in China, I was thinking because Mio is the number one device in China I would be able to get the updates here, but unfortunately that was incorrect. I contacted Consumer direct and the UK law states that issues with devices need to be perused via the retailer; your sales contract is with them.
From what Mio have said that is correct, allot of sat nav companies alter software for that country, the one I purchased in China looks exactly like the ones here in the UK, but upon comparing maps and software they are completely different. I managed to get the device refunded via China, posted the device to a mate and he sorted it out for me. I now have a Mio device which I purchased in France and have no issues at all.
