I have a Dell Latitude C610, some programs run fine, others run dead slow (takes over 24 hours to do a virus check). Some times web pages load OK, sometimes they just sit there loading until I minimize and restore or minimize, restore another app., minimize it and restore the web browser. This happens with IE and Firefox. I went as far as restoring the hard drive (reinstall OS) with the Dell disk and reinstalling all the software. I have also doubled the RAM and the HD.
Wow! 24 hours to run a virus check -- that's a long time. Let's see if we can find out what is causing your laptop to run so slow.
I understand you've doubled the ram ... It is now at least 2gb?
Please look at the following at the event viewer logs to see if anything looks out of the ordinary. (Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer ... look at the Application and System Log in particular).
Is there any process in particular sucking up the processor? Press Ctrl-Alt-Del then open up the the task manager. Choose the processes tab, then click on the CPU tab until it is sorted with the highest process on top. What process/processes are taking up the utilization - ideally, system idle process will be in the 90s.
Please report back so we can resolve your issue. Thank you.
You're going to need more ram. Definitely.
Here's a link to crucial.com that will determine how much ram the laptop can take. You should have 2gb at a minimum to for the laptop to run well. Look for the "scan my system" button in the middle of the page.

Disabling SynTPEnh.exe cured the problem. A virus scan that took over two hours before, now completes in only 27 min. :)

Hello,
The modem driver can be found at this link. try the PCTel driver first, more than likely that's the one it uses.
Good luck!

Try to Format the drive. and use disk cleanup.
SOURCE: DEll Latitude c610 laptop computer
put in the windows 2000 or xp disk
98 is not supported by microsoft , youll have many problems online
but you need to format the hard drive , 20 gb is good
with the windows xp cd boot from it
you will see just one letter drive if more delete them and format just one drive, you can use the quick format , so the windows xp files will go on after that, but youll have 30 day trial

RAM is 525MB
OS is Windows 2000
System Idle Process = 0
SynTPEnh.exe = varies between 40 and 70
Avgrsx.exe & mbam.exe (happens to be running right now) vie for second place.

You suggestion to increase memory is good, however as the problem preceded my memory upgrade, that probably won't help. You did suggest looking at the processes that were running and that did lead me to a suggestion that SynTPEnh.exe may be the problem. As I recall I did toss that beastie back shortly after I got this computer. I disabled it and things are working far better now. Thanks for the help. :)
