Sometimes the color bleeds over. Did you wipe down the contacts and clean the heads? Also, most of the cartridges have low ink sensors in the. Even if you have them refilled, they will still show as low ink. The only solution is to buy the new ones.... $$$$$$.

My lexmark X5410 will not accept the black and colored refilled ink cartridges from walgreens. It keeps reporting that the right cartridge is missing.

If you have refilled the cartridges 28 and 29, it's pretty normal that your printer won't print. Those cartridges are not for refill (they can be refilled, but won't work once the printer says they are empty). If you have refilled a 28A and 29A and it doesn't recognize the one of the cartridges, try removing them and clean the electric contacts with a dry cloth. Put them back in. If that doesn't help, I suggest you buy a new cartridge.

How to Reset an HP Inkjet Cartridge
Hi there
Instructions
Things You'll Need:
Adhesive tape

HP inkjet cartridge can be refilled easily, getting it to work again in the printer is another matter.
The contacts on the back of the cartridge are programmed to read the ink level, but they don't reset for the printer just because you add more ink.
You must get the printer to recognize the cartridge as new.
You can do this easily if you have two other old cartridges, or you can manipulate the contacts on the refilled cartridge.

Step 1
Insert the cartridge you refilled into the HP Printer.
Have the printer print an alignment page, thus recognizing the cartridge. The printer will still read the ink level as where it was before you refilled it.
Step 2
Remove the cartridge from the printer and replace it with another old cartridge.
Have the printer print an alignment page with this cartridge so it recognizes it as a different cartridge from the first one.
Step 3
Replace the second cartridge with a third one and run the same alignment page.
Because the printer only retains the memory of two Print Cartridges, it will erase the memory of the first (refilled) cartridge.
Step 4
Insert the refilled cartridge into the printer.
The printer will now recognize the cartridge as being full.

Next Steps
Step 1
Tape over the contact squares on the top left corner of the cartridge's contacts. Insert the cartridge into the printer and run an alignment page. Ignore any messages that might appear saying there is a problem with the cartridge.
Step 2
Take the cartridge out of the printer. Remove the tape from the left corner and tape over the contact squares on the top right corner. Place the cartridge backs in and run another alignment page.
Step 3
Remove and reinsert the cartridge, this time with no tape on any of the contacts. Check to see if the printer recognizes the cartridge as being full.
Step 4
Repeat the above steps if the cartridge is still shown as being empty.
This time, use the bottom corner contact squares instead of the top ones. If you are still unable to reset the cartridges, using multiple cartridges is likely the only way to do it.
jQuery('.article ol .image').each(function(i,e){ var $this = jQuery(this); $this.find('img').error(function(){ jQuery(this).remove(); $this.remove(); }); }); All I ask is to call back and just gave a vote, it will gave me some satisfaction to know am helping some one, so I will keep on helping.

The cartridge was refilled at Walgreens. The

This might well be another case where saving $ on a refill has cost you the wasted ink you bought. In my experience, refilled cartridges and 3rd party cartridges just dont cut it. Replace your cartridges with the OEM products and you will not go far wrong.

There will probably be others who have had other experience, this is mine and my recommendation.

Thanks for your quesiton.

Refilled ink cartridges at Walgreens, printer won't recognize

Hello!
28 and 29 are not meant to be refilled. They can physically be refilled, but they won't work. That is because Lexmark has put in a smart chip that doesn't allow refill.
You need to buy 28A and 29A or 34 and 35, those cartridges can be refilled with no problem.

If you find my answer helpful, please vote. Thank you!

Error: Remove and replace color cartridge

Because the software inside the cartridge was not reset. They do not have the electronic equiptment to do that.  I believe you woudl have to refill the ink before you got the empty mesasage?

Unable to print with new ink carts

Usually, that message means that your cartridge is dead. Try removing it, clean the electric contacts on it and the ones on the cartridge carrier. Put it back in. If that doesn't help, you will need to buy a new color cartridge.
If you do not have a replacement cartridge, you can still print in, what HP calls "ink backup mode". Simply remove the problem cartridge, and print with the remaining one, in this case, the black one.
  • If you remove the tri-color cartridge, printouts will be in grayscale.

Refilled Cartridges

I've refilled cartridges twice so far. The first time, the black was completely empty and the color was nearly empty. The printer accepted the color refill and not the black. The second time, I refilled both cartridges before they completely ran dry and both were accepted by the printer. The gauges don't register the ink, but it prints just fine. I just monitor the levels through the print quality. A friend with the same printer has told me that she only get 2 - 3 refills before the cartridge has to be reset, and that is a tricky process, but can be done.

Refilling ink cartridges

hp74a.jpg HP #74 Cartridge Refill Instructions
Black cartridge

Instructions
1. Put the cartridge on some paper towels in an area where you can tolerate a spill.
2. Peal off the top label. hp74b.jpg
3. Fill the syringe with 20ml. of black ink.
4. Very S-L-O-W-L-Y inject ink into any hole (they all go to the same sponge, HP just used the same color mold for the black ink cartridges).
5. When finished, replace the top label or leave it off (it will make no difference in the printing).
6. Replace the cartridge and run 1 - 3 cleaning cycles as per printer instructions.
Or print the following pages:
http://www.refillinstructions.com/black.htm for Black

For best results, leave cartridge in printer for 8 hours after refilling so the ink can saturate the entire sponge.
A Refill Kit should include Ink plus the following:
One 30cc Syringe

HP PSC 2355 Won't accept refilled ink cartridges

If problem is what I think it is (that is if you cleaned whole thing and it is connected proprely), you have only one option. To buy at least three cartridges...problem is due a small trick made by HP. Printer remembers at least two cartridge serial numbers, and then wont accept refilled ones. But if you first stick one, then the other, and on the end the third one(only this one should be really full) it should reset printer and it should foul it to accept it. But on some printers it needs up to five cartridges! What a waste of money :( Anyway, hope this helps...
