With a signature classic deep fryer does the basket sit directly on the bottom of the heat rods I want to makesure I have all the pieces to this I bought it at a garage sale and the husband wasn't sure if everything was included and his wife was not home to answer if I had everything to actually use it right away or if I would have to purchase additonal items to use..? Please help I AM waiting to use it to cook right now lol please thanks??????

It sounds to me like it could be one of two things.
Either the magnetic cord safety thingy came slightly undone (which happens to mine constantly) or you didn't turn the timer to "always on".
The thermostat itself does not turn the heating element on, you must turn the timer to always on to preheat the oil, then when it's heated you can set what time you want to fry for.

You can not remove the reservoir because if you clean it out with a hot soapy spange or rag. turn the frier over and remove the plate you will see why the reservoir wont come out.

ebay is a great resource for eyepieces, i would suggest a 26mm ma.
the eyepiece should drop in. if not you might be missing the image erecting diagonal. when the eyepiece is installed you should be looking perpendicular at the tube.

When the whole unit shuts down including the pilot light the thermocouple is not working properly. The thermocouple is what tells the gas safety valve that the pilot light is lighted. When the thermocouple fails and does not send the milli-volt (mv) signal to the gas safety valve due a failure the gas safety valve turns off the gas supply. (i.e total shut down)
If you have a handyman around you can have him disconnect the thermocouple from the gas valve control and clean the mating area in the gas valve and on the bitter end of the thermocouple. After cleaning then reconnect the thermocouple. This sometimes corrects the problem. FYI you can get a thermocouple at most any large appliance parts supply. (You will need to the know total length) It would be even better to have the old one in hand during the trip to the parts store.
