HP F4280 All in one Printer. Feed jammed (AVERY 8376 Ink Jet Business Cards); printer made noises, finally stopped; pulled paper backwards out of printer. Turned the printer on and the cartridges bang three times and are stuck in the replace cartridge position

I know just enough about computers to be DANGEROUS! The cartridges are STUCK in the change cartridge postition on the right side -- and the door is open. The RESUME light is ON. When I push the RESUME button the cartridges TRY to travel to the left but are appafrently striking something with a loud clicking noise. It tries three times to return the cartridges -- with the CLICK sound and then the RESUME light comes back on. I tried removing the color cartgridge and it performs the same routine.

HP F4280 printer still has the cartridges LOCKED in the replace position

  • actionservic Sep 16, 2009

This whole adventure started with a paper JAM.. I have looked in the back and saw NO pieces of paper. Actually, I was using AVERY 8376 "Ink Jet Business Cards" and was approaching the final settings to put all ten carfds where they are supposed to be. When the printger stopped, most of the sheet was sticking out from the front so I jusf slowly pulled it back out of the printerf. Trying to restart the printer only produce three loud CLICKs as the cartrides were trying to return to the left and the resume light came on. I did NOT notice any message on the computer screen.

We may be on the RIGHT course B U T ; I get lost at Step #2 "OPEN Carriage access door"! From the picture it appears that the glass top raises somehow but my fumbling found no release to accomplish this. Can you HELP? OR -- does the glass NOT raise?

  • actionservic Sep 17, 2009

If that doesn't help then try and reset your printer by Pressing and holding # and 3 while plugging in the power cord. WHERE? The carriage seems to be "stuck" in the remove cartridge position on the right side of the printer. SOMETHING is blocking the travel of the cartridges. With the cartridges REMOVED, should it be possible to move the mechanism to the LEFT. It is HITTING something that is preventing it to move.

This issue is URGENT -- I have to print over 200 pay checks and NO PRINTER. Starting over! The problem was caused by a paper jam. The priner made strange noises and finally got silent. I removed the jammed sheet by pulling it back out the front very slowly. Came out in one piece with NO pieces remaining in the printe. The RESUME light was flasing on the printer. Pressisng the RESUME buton the printer made three loud clicking noise and returned to flashing RESUME. The cartridges are in the change position on he right of the priner and are hitting something that prfevents it to travel back to the printing position. Pushing the RESUME button just repeats the 3 clicks and the cartridges are still in the change posiion. Pay day is FRIDAY -- H E L P !!

  • actionservic Sep 17, 2009

LAST TRY! There is NO paper stuck in the printer. The carrtridges are positioned in the replace position at the RIGHT of the printer. The RESUME light is FLASHING. pushing the button produces three LOUD bangs -- the cartridges are hitting something that is preventing them from going back to the printing position. With the printer disonnected ffrom the power, the cartridges can not be pushed manually to the left. They are hitting something that is blocking them from leavng ghe change cartridge position.

Hi,

The unit may have a paper jam or stuck object inside, if you have experience a paper jam error before, check the printer for any object or paper stuck inside, clean roller.

Some error like this can be a problem on the feeder sensor and by this time you may need to replace and repair the unit.

Hope this initial info helps

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Please check for stuck bits of paper under the carriage. Also make sure there are no paper jams near or around the feeder rollers. Make sure that the paper rollers inside the rear access door rotate freely.

Please see this link for details--

HP Printer Stuck Carriage

Also check for paper jams inside the printer head, see this link for details--

HP Printer paper jam

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks

    Hi

You can access the carriage by opening the cartridge door on the right(next to paper feed tray). The glass top will not open, its just an exploded view thats why its seems that glass top raises.
You can follow the procedure given in the previous link. If that doesn't help then try and reset your printer by Pressing and holding # and 3 while plugging in the power cord.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

    Hi

Please try to move the cartridge case manually while the
lid is open and place it in the centre position and then follow the procedure
once again to resolve the issue you are facing with. Also follow the steps to clean the
back rollers, front rollers, carriage rod, and pitch rollers as provided
earlier in first link. And also follow the steps to clean the
carriage contacts and the capping station.

Turn the unit off. Unplug the power cord from the unit. Wait 30 seconds, and then re-connect
the power cord to the unit. Turn the unit on.

By following all the above procedure, the
cartridge case will certainly move to its normal position and printer will
    start printing normally.

    Please do
accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further
    assistance.

    Thanks

Hi there,

Well it's likely two cause in your case -
1.- It might be a misplaced actuator, check for instructions at:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&lang=en&cc=us&product=58057&dl...

2.- Check the power supply and its cable. It might be at the end of its life. Ideally, you should check the power supply under load at its limit. You may use a resistor rated for the load. It will be HOT, be careful. If you don't have it, might be more cumbersome, but you can use the printer as load, and make a test connector that allow you access to voltage terminals.

Good Luck!!

Thanks

I am printing business cards and I am using thick paper but colors come out dull looking but if I change the paper to PLAIN then the colors come out just perfect, full, vivid and rich but I am afraid that...

Its most likely the paper you are printing on. It sounds like this is an ink printer. The way ink works is that it is absorbed into the paper you are printing on. Some paper pulls the ink too far into the paper causing it to look dull and faded. You need to make sure you are printing on paper that is designed for inkjet printers. There are a lot of companies that make special paper designed for printing your own business cards. I prefer Avery products since they have a guarantee.

Check this link out for some options on InkJet business card options.

Printing Business Cards on Cardstock

It could be.

Part of the problem with that machine is that it has to bend the paper to get to the inkjets. If its too think it will stop running.

We use this Avery stock for printing business cards that might be a little thinner cardstock. I would look for some recommended for ink jet printers.

Avery Ink Jet Magnetic Sheets - 3270

It worked fine for us on an Epson. We printed about 40 sheets fed one at a time. Do not stack the sheets in the feed hopper, they stick together because of the magnetism.

There is no template because the material is not die cut. It is just full 8.5x11" sheet size.

Print Garbage

The reason your pictures come out dark and grey is that you have not set the paper thickness on your printer. On the back you will see a flip switch change this setting then feed your business card sheet in there and see the diffrence. Plus make sure your settings for your printer are set for a thicker paper this will fix your problem. Make sure though when done printing your cards that you set it back to the normal or you will have problems printing regular paper documents.
