Turntable is not spinning

I assumed I had a bad turntable motor. I removed the turntable motor from the unit it was in, and replaced it with a motor from a known to be working unit of the exact same model. The turntable still did not spin. Just to double check I put the motor I believed to be bad in the working microwave, and it spun the turntable. This leads me to believe that it may be a wiring issue.

How do I gain access to the control panel to check/replace the wiring? It appears that it would just pop off, but it has not been that simple.

Thank you for the reply. I did check the coupler. I tried the coupler from the known working microwave with the motor from the known working microwave on the broken one, and it still wouldn't work. I had voltage coming through the wires when the microwave was on, but I will have to double check how much. Once i saw voltage on the meter, I just assumed it was the motor.

Did you check the coupler? Take plate out and where the plate sits grab it and see if it just spins freely if so it's the coupler. If not it probably is in the wiring.

Emerson turntable won't spin MW8992SB

The turntable system typically consists of the motor, the coupler, the turntable support with rollers, and the tray.

Here is a video of how a turntable motor should sound when you rotate it by hand.

If yours is not set to be off via the control panel, and it won't rotate or it sounds like it's grinding, etc., you may have a bad motor or plastic coupler.

To replace either, you need to unplug power, then remove the bottom cover of the oven.

The turntable in my GE XL1400 stopped turning. How do I reach the motor to clean or replace?

They MIGHT have a belt between the motor and the turntable drive wheel that may have gone bad, rather than the motor. The unit will have to be removed from the case to get to the innards.

Turntable doesn't turn

remove bottom panel,< screws along front and tips down > the turntable motor is in the middle. Unplug motor and use multi-meter< insert probes into plug end > run short cycle with something inside of unit," glass of water ", if you have voltage here then the motor is bad and needs replaced. If not then mother board most likely problem.

Revolving plate no longer rotates . All else works, it continu;es to cook, but we need to move the items of food from time to time

Remove the plate, and check if the square shaped gear that normally spins the turntable is rotating.

If it is rotating, then replace the turntable gear.

If it is not rotating that means that the motor that spins the microwave turntable does not rotate, and must be replaced.

4175sp microwave has no power to turntable

I assume this is Whirlpool model GH4175sp?

This answer also assumes that yours does not allow for keypad control of the turntable.

You can see and hear a video of how a turntable motor should sound when you rotate it by hand.

If yours won't rotate or it sounds like it's grinding, etc., you may have a bad motor or plastic coupler.

To replace either, you need to unplug power, then remove the bottom cover of the oven. You may have to cut the cover off with snips, then use a screw when reassembling it.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

OTR microwave turntable won't rotate

If not, please post your brand and model.

It's probably the motor, but possibly the coupler.

One quick check is to remove the turntable and support / roller ring and try to turn the coupler. It should be a little hard to get started, then you should hear a whirring sound, not a clicking or grinding, which would indicate a bad motor.

If the coupler turns loosely with no resistance, then it's probably bad.

Here is my text on replacing couplers, which had steps which are necessary when replacing motors. Note that if yours is a built-in model, ignore the part about turning it on its side *grin*

NOTES ON REPLACING TURNTABLE COUPLERS

Copyright 2007 by William E. Miller - MicrowaveDisplay.com

UNPLUG THE OVEN FROM THE WALL FIRST OR YOU WILL EXPOSE YOURSELF TO LETHAL VOLTAGES!

Note that I am not encouraging you to work on electrical items if you are not qualified, and I assume no liability for any consequences of your decision to do so.

When replacing the turntable coupler on most models, it is necessary to loosen or remove the screws that mount the turntable motor to the bottom of the chassis.

It is usually easier to do this with the microwave oven on its right (heaviest) side because you will need two hands for alignment.

Be sure to put a towel or similar cushion on the work surface to avoid scratching the oven wrapper (oven cover) or the work surface.

It is not necessary to remove the wrapper or the wires from the turntable motor itself, but you may need to remove a small metal duct covering the turntable motor if your oven has one.

It should only be held on by one or two screws.

Although a broken coupler may come out easily or even fall out, the new coupler will not go in without at least loosening the turntable motor.

Look at the hole in the new coupler. You'll notice it has (most do have) a flat side to it. That flat side will line up with the flat side on the motor shaft.

When the old coupler is out and the motor is loose, you can ease the new coupler in the hole with one hand while turning the coupler very slightly back and forth as you gently push the motor toward it. Do not force the part in.

When the coupler has mated properly with the motor, you should feel it go in.

Be sure it's right, or you may break the new coupler or bend the mounting ears of the motor when you attempt to tighten the screws.

Reassemble in reverse order.

Spacemaker 1800 Turntable

If the noise goes away when you turn the turntable off, it sounds like you have a turntable drive motor that is going bad. They are fairly easy to replace and not terribly expensive. You can access the motor by leaving the oven in place and UNPLUGGED. Remove the bottom panel. You will need to remove the turntable coupler (the plastic piece that spins the glass carousel) and remove a few screws in order for the motor to come out through the bottom of the oven. There should also be a quick connect plug that plugs into the motor. The motor runs about $35 and the turntable coupler (if you wish to replace it as well), runs about $8. The part numbers are 769741 and 769278, respectively at repairclinic.com. I hope this helps you.
