This unit is not equipped with a auto defrost so in order to defrost you will need to turn off the unit (unplug). You will need to put a pan underneath of the freezer compartment to catch the water so that it does not flood the outside area.

Same thing happened to me. I downloaded the 2.20 update and it will not let me boot up the unit. It will not get past the spinning clock. I needed to go on a trip this weekend and have to use my cell phone as my gps. What a big let down.

try a hard reset again using a paper clip, insert it in the little pin hole on the side to reset the unit. if that fails, get the 3.12 update (if you havent already) off the magellan site..you must register the unit with magellan before you can download the update.

I also had problems with a refurbished Magellan 4250. The paperwork inside said to install the 4.85 firmware update which I found would not work with Windows XP Home at least for me. I used my laptop which has Vista Ult 32 bit it updated with no problem that is so far the only solution I used.

You probably just need to reset it.
Magellan Maestro models- the location of reset button is on the left, right, or bottom side inside a small hole. Use an object to apply pressure to depress the reset button. Also try holding the power button down for up to 10 seconds to power the unit off and again holding the power button down for up to 10 seconds to power the unit on.

This cradle/power problem was a major problem at launch 4 years back - i had 3 units before I got one that worked OK and that replacement was itself a factiry refurbished unit. Even now, sometimes the power lead is verys ensitive and the unit shuts down.

Magellan Support is absolutely useless (apart from 'John') they just don't respond to queries. I updated to latest maps and firmware 6 (actually shows ver 5.37) on the understanding that I would get Magellan Tools and could then load cameras. BUT it has been such a huge waste of time.

I am at last binning my Roadmate and getting a Tomtom Go 720T with Traffic and cameras preloaded. It auto updates each time you sit the unit in its cradle linked to PC/internet.

Wish I'd never wasted over £800 on Magellan 4 years ago.
