Needle valve in carb. maybe hung open. Or diaphragm may be bad. You will need to remove carb. and clean and replace all worn parts. Go to homelite.com to find manual for the saw.

SOURCE: chainsaw starts and runs fine for a few minutes

Try fresh fuel making sure oil and gas mixture is correct. Carb might need cleaning and adjustment.

SOURCE: poulan wood shark 1950 wont start spark plug has

Try to squirt a little gas in the carb and see if it pops or tries to run for a short time. The diaphram in the carb is probably old and hard. That would be the first place I would look.

This homelite chainsaw is bran new

Remove the spark plug and check for blue and snappy spark. If weak or nothing, try another spark plug. If still improper spark, return the machine for replacement under warranty. Make sure you have followed all instructions for re-start. Good luck!

Homelite chainsaw won't stay running

Make sure you are using fresh fuel mix (50:1 ratio). Don't use boat motor oil in a saw--only modern synthetics made for saws. Always premix the oil and fuel thoroughly before adding to the saw. Check the fuel filter for plugging and the condition of all fuel lines, plus the primer bulb condition. Check all carburetor fasteners for tightness. Make sure the air filter and muffler are not plugged. If still no help, you may need to service the carburetor. For an excellent article on Walbro carburetors, go to: http://www.drystacked.com Pay particular attention to the placement of the lower diaphragm and the cover gasket--interchanging positions of them cause many headaches. Adjustment of the two jet screws require a special 'D' screwdriver which may necessitate a trip to a servicing dealer for adjustment. Hope this helps!

Homelite chain saw quits in 15 minutes

Why are you not standing on the help desk where you purchased this? If it starts to sputter then dies It is probably a plugged fuel tank vent. When it begins to act up roll the saw so the fuel cap is up right and loosen it a little. If it smooths out and runs correctly you just vented the tank and that is where the problem lies. If it suddenly stops running with no warning it is most likely an electrical problem. If you repair either of these problems it may void your warranty. Why not make Homelite repair or replace it? If offered a refund I would not purchase any product by the same manufacturer. At best their quality control is lacking. HTH

CHAIN SAW QUITS CUTTING AS IT HITS WOOD.

The make, model, and occationally the serial number help us solve your problem.

Does the engine quit running? (Carburator needs adjustment)
Or does it continue running and chain stops? (need clutch refaced or replaced.) (to aggressive a chain for the size of the engine)

I think you replaced parts unnecessarily. Maybe quicker and cheaper to visit your friendly neighborhood chainsaw shop. A good one can repair it even if they do not sell your brand.

Homelite 4618c runs fast when it should idle.

Hi Crackdpot,

If it's still under warranty, anything you do to it will void it. My best advice is let them handle it. They most likely will have seen the problem before and know exactly what to do about it.

Bottom line: It's their headache, let them handle it.

BTW, I have several Homelight machines. Despite their minor problems, they continue to serve me well.

Best regards,

Mike
