The simplest way to clean the heads on a printer is to follow the steps in the Maintenance Menu.
You have not said WHY you feel the need to remove the print head.
Is it because of smudging and smearing when printing?
Most often this is not caused by dirty heads, it is caused by build up of inks on the paper rollers across which the print heads traverse.
If you consider yourself dexterous enough to do so, you could try this.
DO NOT POKE AROUND INSIDE THE PRINTER WITH THE POWER TURNED ON !
Also do not be heavy handed..........gently does it !
For this exercise, as you will be handling Methylated Spirit I suggest wearing a pair of washing up gloves or those thin plastic disposable ones to protect your skin. Some people's skin can react to such liquids and it is wise to protect oneself in that way.
Turn on the printer and lift the movable body so as to expose the printer cartridges.
Let the machine settle completely AND THEN TURN THE POWER OFF. This will leave the heads in the centre position.
Gently hold and move the whole head assembly to one side. Do not force it or you can upset the timing mechanisms. If you find it troublesome.......do not progress any further.....take it to a computer repair shop.
If you have succeeded thus far.......................
Now use a paper tissue onto which you have sprinkled some methylated spirit so as to moisten it, to gently wipe off all of the ink on all exposed parts which you can see are coated with ink residue.
Then, very very gently move the printhead to the opposite side to expose the remainder of the ink coated parts.
Clean it all off by using as many tissues as you may need to.
Ensure that you also wipe along the length of both of the black rollers and rotate and manipulate them so that they turn so that you can wipe the whole surface of them.
By now your printer should be looking a whole lot cleaner and you should have a small pile of ink stained tissues as evidence of your cleaning activity.
Now check each ink cartridge by removing it and using a DRY TISSUE wipe off any ink which is on the exit hole of the cartridge.
It should all be clean and dry, and you should see just the centre pad in each cartridge appearing to be damp with ink.
Refit all cartridges ensuring that you replace those which are registering a flashing light which shows nigh on empty.
Do not move the printhead assembly further. Just close the printer and turn on the power. It will reset itself and position the printhead ready for you to use to print.
If you master this exercise, you have learned how to do a simple maintenance job once a year on your printer.
I hope you succeed with it.
PS . As an alternative to Methylated spirit one can use a Nail Varnish Remover which is made from natural materials rather than an Acetone based one.
Acetone should not be used. It is toxic and can be dangerous in the wrong hands. It will also affect exposed skin and may upset those who have Asthma or lung problems. Some plastics can be damaged if Acetone comes into contact with them.
please verify with other image(pic) from elsewhere.....than that of your source..just to verify that its the printer itself......print a pic from web....
CAUTION: Do not leave the Top Cover open for more than 10 minutes without covering the Imaging Units as damage could result. Use the dark bag that came with the Imaging Unit or opaque paper as a cover.
Remove all four Imaging Units (which includes removing the Toner (Dry Ink) Cartridges attached to the Imaging Units). To avoid Toner spills, hold the Imaging Unit in an upright position.
CAUTION: Do not use warm water or cleaning solvents to remove Toner (Dry Ink) from your skin or clothing. This will set the Toner and make it difficult to remove. If any Toner gets on your skin or clothing, use a brush to remove the Toner, blow it off, or wash it off with cold water and mild soap. Do not attempt to use a standard shop vacuum or home vacuum to clean Toner spills in or near the machine. Shop and home vacuums are not equipped with correct filtration and will contaminate your environment.
Raise the two gold colored latches (front and rear of printer) to unlock the Transfer Unit.
Grasp both gold colored handles (center and right) to lift the Transfer Unit out of printer.
To install a new Transfer Unit:
Remove the new Transfer Unit from its packaging or shipping materials.
Grasp the two handles on the new Transfer Unit and place the left end into the frame alignment sockets.
Lower the right end of the Transfer Unit down until it lays flat in the printer.
Press down on both latches to secure the Transfer Unit into position.
Make sure the Transfer Unit is latched into position. Lift up on the right handle to see if the Transfer Unit lifts up. If the unit does not lift it is latched correctly.
Re-install the Imaging Units and Toner (Dry Ink) Cartridges.
Try taking out the ink cartdridge and looking at the contacts where the ink cartdridge meets te cradle, sometimes ink gunks up on the carasel and allthough you change it out, the gunk stays there and just block the new one put in. wear latex gloves when doing this, Black ink is pesky on the skin.
Also, just might want to check the printer settings and be sure it isnt set to print in greyscale.
