Grinding fan noise HP dv6 1130TX

Hi Guys,

About 2 months ago I purchased a HP Pavilion dv6-1130TX. The laptop itself is great and i'm happy with it's performance. However, about a week ago an unusual noise started to occur in the top left portion of the laptop. I'm not a tech guru or anything but i'll go out on a limb and assume it's the fan (lol) The noise is coming from approximately underneath the escape key and the power button and although quiet, sounds like a cross between an old car idling, and the noise coming from Aunt Beru's kitchen when she was making blue milk in Star Wars.

Would love it if you could help with any assistance?

First, if you just purchased the unit, you should have the problem fixed by HP under warranty.
HP offers a extended 1 year from the date of purchase. Thats 2 years on startup problems.
You are correct on the noise comming from the fan.
This will not go away and may get worse.
If the fan slows down or stops when needed, the CPU will go for a walk.
Email HP customer care and log your problem.
Make sure you have reg. your unit first.

Newer HP Pavilion dv6000 turned off while in use and wont turn on

1.Start your computer and see if your hear your fan noise, and cannot see anything on screen then there is problem with your power supply.

2.If you cannot hear your fan noise, and do not see anything on screen, then there is problem with your motherboard

3.if you hear fan noise and can see something on screen, then it is the issue with your hard disk (very less cases)

Mostly it would be the 2nd case that you will have to get your motherboard replaced

Fan noise after a few minutes running.

Fans are typically a little noisey. If it's exceptionally loud or continues for a long time it may indicate the fan is no providing the proper cooling. Purchase a laptop cooling pad to place under the laptop while your useing it and make sure nothing is interfering with the airflow around the unit.

My Hp DV6174CL laptop makes a fan grinding noise near the power button. this happened after a repair from Micromedics

The DV6000 units have a cooling fan located on the bottom of the case top left side.
If you hear a grinding noise, please do not use the unit.
Bring it back for repair. The blower is on-top of the CPU and if it does not recv. the correct cooling, it will take out the processor.

I bought HP Pavilion dv5 6 months ago and fan not working

Your cooling fan sounds to have went out, causing it to overheat and shut down.It also could be something in the fan stopping it from turning.Try cleaning it or blowing it out with it off.But it mostly sounds to have went out.

A grinding sound from the fan area at the upper left of the base

well theres more than one fan on the inside of your computer, so its possible it could be dusty and its setting the fan off balance. its also possible you have a defective fan inside and this sounds like a hardware issue, its possible theres a service enhancement on this model so i would call tech support to see if it can be sent in for repair, i know its not what anyone wants to hear but i do not suggest opening it yourself as it can be hazardous (i.e you get electrocuted)

Note: this could also be cause by overheating or being dropped (theres numerous other things but those sound like the most likely alternatives)

Hp pavilion zd8000 just over 2 years old

Sounds like you are getting a supply line issue which is well known on these models. Pull the battery, Boot into BIOS, (F10 at the splash screen) And see if it will run for an extended period of time. Next if it does Boot into Safe mode and do the same..(This is F8).. Post back..
