It could be as simple as dust contamination in the LE or lcd chip. You need a clean room to work on this area of the unit and NOTHING you can do there would make that possible, short of spending a few thousand to build one. Before we added a clean room enviroment we simply pulled the LE and sent it in to PTS - who has one and reinstalled...
In your case take it to a qualified shop and you'll save yourself a lot of grief..

SOURCE: My 37'' Vizio Flat Screen TV keeps shutting it's self off
I had a problem with mine shutting off randomly and (luckily under warantee still) the guy came out and replaced the mother board. If you're under warantee still just call vizio.
SOURCE: Panasonic TH-42PX60U PLasma - 1/2 screen blacked out
If the screen split is exactly 50/50 top/bottom You are not getting SU or Scan Upper drive.
These are lovely set to work on.
Most likely is SU board itself - Not repairable just to be replaced.
Sorry I work in the UK so I can only guide that the UK part is around £30
SU may have been damaged by failure if the PDP (Plasma Display Panel) but is 9 years only had 2 screens damage the SU board.
There are several setups to do after fitting a PDP. If you don't have the service data - Do not risk it, Reduced life of the Panel and a safety risk.
SOURCE: 42in Vizio black screen, no sound
I had the same issue happen to my vizio lcd just this weekend. Everyone is telling me is a bulb or backlight or something. It would explain the loud pop and no picture, but I'm not getting sound either so I'm not sure what exactly happened. Only after about 2 years too. I'm trying to find parts to just fix it myself.

Hello kilmertwo, my names Dave! What your TV did is called the POP OF Death! In order to repair the TV you will need to replace the Y sustain & the Z sustain board also! The loud POP noise you heard came from the Z sustain! If you take this TV to a local repair shop the cost of the repair is going to be around 800.00 big one! 450.00 parts and 350.00 labor! Not only will you be spending that amount but this is a common problem with this TV! So you take the chance of this happening again! What I'm trying to do is to save you from throwing good money after bad! Do not repair the TV! You can for the same amount of money buy a totally brand new TV! I would suggest that you buy a Panasonic! Trust me!
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions! I'll be more then happy to answer any question you may have!
