1) If it worked before, you can do a system restore to the last time you remember it working which should clear the problem. Also, 2) Check your printer folder (in "Control Panel") and see if it is listed as a "printer" in there. You may need to reinstall the drivers if you don't see it, Sometimes the driver disk has a repair install option.
3) It may not be "check marked" as your default printer device (in printer folder) which you can easily change by right click on its icon and choose "set as default".

Printer won't scan because it's out of ink

Unfortunately, all-in-one printers are printers/copiers. The scan to a computer function is a secondary function and the unit has interlocks to keep it from being damaged when the ink is out. There is a way to print with only one ink cartridge in place but this only allows print jobs from the computer. The copy and scan functions are locked. For details, see http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01673672&tmp_task=solveCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=3742086#N2374 . See the section on Ink Level Indicator (!) and the bottom notch of the indicator blink fast and the Workaround: Print in ink-backup mode

You need a stand-alone scanner if you routinely want to scan to your computer without a printer ink level OK status report.

I wish that I had better news for you.

Hello, my printer is able to scan and copy but it doesn't print. Both the cartridge lights are blinking but their is sufficient ink the cartridge. Can you help? I have Cannon MP190. Thanks

If the lights are blinking for the cartridges, then there is not enough ink.
Get new ones or refilled ones and try it again.

Or there may be enough ink, but the electronics on the carts are not working, could be a short, or an open circuit.

Do i have to have ink cartridges in the printer

Your printer needs both black and color cartridges to be functioning for you to use any of the printers' properties. Kind of screwy, but that's just how they made the machine work.

Says replace ink cartridge

I have replaced my ink cartridges numerous times and they are still full. It keeps telling me the ink cartridge needs replacing. It won't print and the red light keeps blinking. I have disconnected the usb and the power. I have only had this printer for about a year. It won't scan or print. Its a Kodak Easyshare 5300. The HomeCenter AiO is disconnected so how do I contact anyone from Kodak?

Printer

you need always enough ink to keep this type of machine alive (printing fax, copy, scan). you have to replace the empty cart.
